Any Accepted with no interview?

Alum or on campus?

Me ..... I live in India ... so i guess they didnt have an alum near my place....

Me too...although I tried calling the adcom twice....

where do you live, weiss1?

I was accepted last year without an interview. I live in New Jersey. There are plenty of interviewers around in the area. Everyone else from my school that applied got one. I didnt for some reason - not sure why not. But anyway, I got in RD without one.

I was. I think I actually didn't realize I hadn't been interviewed by Dartmouth until after I had gotten in so I didn't have a chance to call them or, you know, worry about it.

Obviously you all are excellent students, because you were accepted. How do you think they decided who to give interviews to (people who’s school mates were got interviews)?

I haven’t gotten an interview from Dartmouth yet either, except I’m the only one at my school who’s applying, so I’m not sure if they have any alums in my area.

They give everyone an interview if an alum is available. My DS was told interviews mean zero, they are a formality.

obviously an alum is available because a girl at my school got one, but i was not offered one. not sure what to think

I work at the admissions office (actually posting this from the front desk right now, what up) – the interviews have absolutely zero weight. They’re allocated on a first come first serve basis, I believe – and we’ve been repeatedly told by officers that the interviews are a formality, and nobody should worry if they don’t get one. About half of all current students (myself included) were never interviewed. International students in particular will not be interviewed because there just aren’t enough alumni out there, although if there are special circumstances obviously the office will make an effort to arrange an interview.

Long story short,

They definitely don’t pick people to be interviewed based on merit – in the US it’s the luck of the draw, and outside the US, it’s if there’s something really unique which suggests an interview is necessary

If you don’t get interviewed, you are at no disadvantage

are you sure u work for Dartmouth – I would think that you might be worried about confidentiality

I speak with prospectives in person and on the phone – this is exactly what we’re told to tell them. If you called me up at the office or dropped in to visit, it’s exactly what I’d tell you.

D was admitted w/o an interview and is attending.

If the interviews have zero weight, why bother?

They’re more like informational interviews for the candidate to learn about the school, etc.
