How hard is the McNair scholars thing to get? Does anyone have any info on how competitive it is? I'm ranked 1/400 and have a 1460 and the rest of my stats can be found on that pr*stats site, under the SN cavalier302 (link in profile).

BTW, I'm still waiting to hear back from princeton ED (crossing fingers). Several of my friends got accepted to UVa ED the day before thanksgiving...what a nice holiday surprise!!

Cavalier302, McNair Scholars is very competitive but you are in the range. If you make the finalist cut, they will fly you to Columbia, wonderful city, sumptuously dine you, and give you a tour of the city. If you are named a scholar, you will be notified in a personal call from president Sorensen, a very fine genttleman. You must demonstrate real interest in the school. I think most recipients who turn it down do so to go to Duke, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Rice, Emory. The only scholarships that trump it are Robertson Scholars and the Morehead (almost impossible to get) at UNC-CH, Clemson National Scholars, and Emory Scholars. I would take McNair and go to SC over non-scholarship UNC-CH any day of the week. By the way, McNair will let you pocket any McNair scholarship money left over after expenses.
