Any ACT Tutors Out There?

Do any of you tutor for the ACT? Thinking about doing this...any recommendations/books/courses to prep for this?

Not a tutor, but we’ve used several ACT books and the “REAL ACT” has helped the most. Look under the ACT portion of this web site. You’ll find lots of good suggestions.

I’m an SAT/ACT tutor and I second the recommendation about the Real ACT. There aren’t any exceptional ACT strategy-type books out there - the SAT has definitely cornered the market on available texts! Try a practice test on your own and analyze which areas are your weakest. Good luck!

Our high school offers ACT prep sessions just prior to test date.

Sylvan learning Center also offers a program, about 6 weeks or so right before test date. They guarentee you’ll raise your score a specific amount of points.

Not sure of your question: Are you thinking of getting tutored or thinking of being a tutor?

If it is the latter, you may want to apply to be a tutor with one of the companies that offer this - such as Princeton Review. I know a young lady who is a tutor. She had a high ACT sscore which was a basis for consideration, then got the job after a series of interviews. They gave her extensive training, including all expense paid weekends of training. Now she teaches classes, proctors exams at her college for graduate tests, works college fairs, etc. She is a college sophomore.

My son only took the ACT once after taking the SAT. It may sound funny but I bought him the Spark notes book to prep for the science section since the SAT doesn’t have one.

I thought it was done well, concise and to the point.

The Real ACT book is the only one with actually used questions. A lot of the other books have made up questions that may be harder or easier than the real one, and there are quite a few typos and other errors that can waste your time or otherwise confuse you.
