Any admission decisions released?

1234- would be interesting for others to know- what are your sons stats- gpa, sats etc let us know!

1234 - Congrats! This brings back memories of just about a year ago. He is in the Honors Dorm and taking a couple of Honors classes and is very happy at Pitt.

Ditto to DonnaMom

Rocknroll52, DonnaMom and vryproud mom: Thanks for the congrats. Rocknroll52, you asked about his stats. He is a strong candidate. ACT 35 (super scored two sittings but 34 if not), 3.94 unweighted GPA at rigorous private HS that does not rank. All honors or AP classes all four years. Chairman of Honor Council at his school, Captain of the Debate team and President of Investment Club. Forensics, Baseball and karate. Community service and both national and state awards. You get the idea! He is a great boy and we are very proud of him. Good luck to everyone who is waiting!

1234, Does Pitts super score ACT? Thanks.

Congras to your S 1234! Still waiting to submit here, but maybe this week!?!

Tiger88: The admission rep told my son to send in both test dates for the ACT. On the web site they state:

[University of Pittsburgh: Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid](http://www.oafa.pitt.edu/lookfor.aspx)

“Taking the SAT I or ACT more than once. We recommend that you test once in the junior year and once early in the senior year. We combine your highest critical reading and math sub scores from all tests submitted.”

So, I guess it does not hurt if you send more than one test.

Does that mean they take the highest score from either of those tests (i.e., Math from the ACT and Critical Reading from the SAT)? It is confusing…

Yes. That’s exactly what I was told by the Assistant Director of Admissions. The will “mix and match” to come up with the best possible score.

^ Really? That’s unusual, given how fundamentally different the ACT is from the SAT. Many schools super score, that is pick the highest SAT scores across multiple test dates, or the highest ACT scores across multiple test dates. But I’ve never heard of mixing and matching SAT scores with ACT scores. That would require somehow converting the ACT scores to SAT scores, or vice versa, and would take super scoring to a whole new level. Any school that would do that would appear to me as a little desperate to boost its incoming class profile…

Klfrech,

Boy, I hope that you’re right. That would make my kiddo’s day! Do you know if they do that type of combining to meet the 1450 SAT minimum (33 ACT) for OOS merit money consideration?

Even if they are doing that, it likely wouldn’t boost admissions profile or statistics. Common Data Sets require SAT and ACT scores to be reported separately, and you cannot convert numbers between the two tests for reporting those numbers. Only 28% of students submitted both tests to Pitt to begin with. I think such a policy would simply be an attempt to give a student as much chance as possible, since their policy has been a superscoring one already.

klfrech: I’m certain you misunderstood what was said to you. Pitt will select the highest ACT scores from a number of different ACT tests OR the highest SAT scores from a number of different SAT tests, but will NOT mix the highest ACT score in one area with the highest SAT score in another subject. I believe you asked this question before about the SAT scores.

I know there have been a variety of posts on this topic. Some say Pitt does superscore ACTs and others don’t. I am just relaying what I was told via a telephone conversation with the assistant director of admissions. There is a post a while ago from someone who got the same information when they attended a pharmacy information session.

Here is the previous posting. Again, there is conflicting information.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pittsburgh/807543-does-pitt-superscore-act.html

There is plenty of conflicting information on this site and the internet. While it is possible that Pitt will superscore the ACT, I am certain they will NOT mix an ACT score in one subject area with a SAT score in another as Southmom asked/suggested. Not going to happen. In fact I have not heard/read of any college that will mix select ACT scores with select SAT scores.

Aglages,

I didn’t “suggest” anything - I simply asked a question based on information found on this thread.

They do combine a subject area on the SAT with a subject area on the ACT. A rep from Pitt visited out school today and said that. He said Pitt was one of the few schools that does it.

i have heard of this policy else where also. for example, Virginia tech does this also. i got this info from a tech rep, so its credible.

Ok…23t & Eaglesforlife…how do they combine them? What part of the ACT does VT and Pitt combine with which part of the SAT? Anyone have any links to this approach for any college? Or is this just word of mouth from people whose job is to encourage students to apply? Seems as though VT and Pitt would be posting this novel approach to standardized test results ALL over their admissions pages…but it seems to be a secret.
