Was wondering if anyone out there going to Columbia or already going wanted to share their Why Columbia essays

In case you didn't read the other threads about this topic, none of us are willing to share.

only because one of you rd'ers might take from it. then it wouldn't be our fault if we're both rejected, but it "would". get it?

ahh, im so jealous of you two, ofeternity and yapsuper :P

it gives you room for a paragraph... so list 1 thing you like more than the others and explain why

I don't understand how reading someone else's essay could help on this anyway...don't YOU know why you want to go to Columbia? If you need to see why someone else did then maybe you don't really want to go there. It sounds like people on here are looking for the "perfect why columbia essay" ... and there isn't one. I think you should just be completely honest and say what attracts you...that will be just fine.

just a question... will it seem offtopic if the main reason i'm applying to columbia is for the arts department? lol and juilliard, i'm applying seas

"I don't understand how reading someone else's essay could help on this anyway..." True, but I imagine someone taking a few sentences verbatim just because they were, after all, successful essays.

haha, arts department better not be off topic because that's why applying too...... and Juilliard is of course awesome, but from what I've heard the Juilliard/Columbia program is absolutely insane, so even if I'm accepted I probably won't pursue it.. I heard from a Juilliard rep that almost everyone drops it... and my juilliard friends are having a hard enough time keeping up with just music..
what do you want to do at juilliard btw, cujoe169? I'm a harpist

i want to be a chem engineer haha, but i just want a teacher from juilliard, i'm a violinist

hey me too... i didnt' even know we could get teachers from Juliard!!!!

haha, the arts is probably a popular choice..
and yeah, it's awesome, Columbia students can have lessons at Juilliard for no extra charge. Of course they have to audition like everyone else... I've heard that the number of people who actually do this is REALLY low, like less than 10. Or maybe that's just for the combined degree program.. I'm not exactly sure... but it makes sense because I know that for me at least, it'd be pretty hard to be/stay a juilliard caliber musician while also studying full time at Columbia.. I mean, I reached the level to audition at Juilliard by being home schooled and practicing 4 sometimes 5 hours a day...
Uggghhh... depressing thought

cujoe, go ahead and write it, but be sure to state why you choose the engineering school in the why engineering essay.

oh i did ;)... but it actually asks why you want to be an engineer, and not why there engineering school doesn't it?

Yes.. that is the question.

Wow Klw88, I thought I was a decent violinist... I'm not Juliard level yet but I'm only a year away with a really good teacher. Actually most of my teachers were Juliard Graduates... I was blessed musically. You think I could get a teacher even thought I am bit below their standards?

um...when im looking at the online app for columbia, which are we talking about? the short thing that has 3 lines?

beause the only true essay is the personal statement one.

right?

by essay we mean the short ones too.
