Any admitted GEAR students out there that want to post their stats?

Hi all,

I'm a rising senior that's in love with this school, and the GEAR program really piques my interests. I'm hoping for there to be some admitted students lurking around that could post their stats and comments as to how their interviews went and such. I've google'd and haven't really found much, so I guess if there's a goldmine of GEAR info out there then I just don't know how to search properly =P.

I've looked around the UR website and have seen this University of Rochester : College Admissions,
but I'm always eager to learn more.

Thanks to anybody that has anything =)

I second that request. Also any REMS students/graduates willing to share their stats from high school.

Thank you!!

Ah, nothing? I understand though, the programs are selective and there’s no guaranteeing that there’ll be someone lurking the forums

AnonymousCCer,

The website you eluded to does give the best overall example of a typical GEAR finalist: [University of Rochester : College Admissions](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/CAPs/GEAR/apply.shtm)

A vast majority of the finalists last year had GPA’s of 3.7 unweighted or higher, but someone with a GPA of 3.05 made the cut as well due to that student’s intense research experiences. A few others in the 3.3-3.5 range made the finalist cut as well due to their heavy involvement in engineering-related extracurriculars.

The SAT Math score is a very good indicator for success in the GEAR program as well. Most of our finalists had SAT Math scores in the 680-800 range. Only two finalists had SAT Math scores below 650 last year. (They came from unique backgrounds and had stronger GPA’s / leadership activities to back up their applications.)

The program is selective for a very important reason: finalists who are accepted into the GEAR program need to maintain at least a 3.3 GPA (3.5 for Optics students) in order to remain in the program.

I hope that helps!

Thank you very much for that information, TSocash!

A couple of more questions relating to scores and GEAR, if you don’t mind answering/ if you know the answers to:

Are ACT math scores also looked at for evaluation for GEAR, if submitted? If so, do you have on record a range of ACT math scores that look generally impressive, as you did for the SAT math?

Also, if an applicant’s SAT math scores are in the mid 600s, will a high Math II SAT score “save” them? I’m just asking this because I still haven’t taken the Math II test, and the number of test dates for the SAT and Subject Tests left before the CAP deadlines are winding down
