A post about any potential downside to applying to “too many” schools in EA made me wonder if there’s any advantage in submitting all applications now? My son has finished his applications and has a mix of a couple rolling (submitted), EA and RD (because EA not an option). He doesn’t foresee having any significant achievements/honors/extracurriculars to add before posted deadlines.
Do application reviews typically take place after stated deadline or does that vary by institution?
Thanks in advance!
Usually no advantage or disadvantage. But small Lacs might take notice.

In general, no. The focus for AOs before the EA deadline is prep, college fairs, info sessions, etc. For RD, the focus before the deadline is EA/ED and holiday break.
The advantage to the student in submitting early is that it gets it off their plate and, depending on the college, may get an interview scheduled earlier.
If nothing is going to change, and the essays have been triple checked for typos, go ahead and submit. If the student plans to attend an EA school if accepted, there is no reason to spend the money to submit RD applications before the EA decisions are released, unless you need to compare RD FA offers.
