I’ve taken 10 AP exams so far and have gotten only 5s on them. So, I received a National AP Scholar Award. Is there any advantages of this award, especially when receiving it as a junior? Also, is there any scholarship you can get from receiving all 5s on AP exams?
Any advantages from receiving an AP National Scholar Award as a junior? How about all 5s on AP exams
No.
Sadly, no advantages no matter when you get it. Hope you were doing it for the sense of accomplishment!
(if you are home-schooled, the APs are nice validation that you have done work to that level- that’s really the only admissions benefit, and it’s not much)
At many schools you can get credit for the classes which might allow you to graduate early.
One benefit is doing that probably means you are a bright kid who is motivated and that will likely show up in other aspects of your college apps.
You can put it on your college application.
Colleges will definitely take notice of it. It’s an award that shows you can handle college-level work.
My kids got all 5s, didn’t make a lot of difference for two of them. For one, she was able to get better class selection.
Congrats on the scores! As far as I know, AP National Scholar does not translate directly to dollars - but there are benefits. For example, my son got all 5s - he was able to graduate in 4 years with a Masters in engineering. Kind of a B1G benefit! Plus he was able to get out of taking SAT IIs, so that meant a lot to him.
Those AP classes can have you less stressed in college with a lighter schedule.
Should I send my AP scores to colleges? It’s $15 per school, so sending it to 10 schools means $150. Could getting all 5s help my admission chances?
^^^No don’t send them to any school except where you are accepted. There is NO benefit to admission for all 5’s…strictly used for college credit AFTER being accepted.
Self report. No need to spend $$ to send until next summer
You definitely do NOT want to pay to send AP scores during the application process; you will probably need to send the official report to the school you end up attending in order to get credit.
However, you definitely want to self-report those scores in the testing section of your common app!
My D listed it on her local scholarship applications and I believe it might have helped her a bit.
Yeah, I listed it on my common application. I hope that’s okay because you can just lie about it on it.
OP, the school’s do look at what was put on the app and compare. You can’t just lie. That’s a sure rescind.
D also got 10 5s, as a rising senior. Since their school started the NMSI program this year, she will get paid $400 or $500 if they count the AB subscores for her 6 5s last year! Social sciences, like Gov, don’t count. She is taking AP tests next year too!
I don’t think she got the award in the mail yet?
It comes in September.
So whatever score I put on the common app will be considered even without sensing the official score report? Because you also enter your SAT/ACT scores on the common app and the subject test scores but you have to send the score reports for both.
