any advice for a CAP student going to UTSA?

People at UTSA complain about parking too. Compared to UT and Texas State, parking at UTSA is a dream!

Aww okay, I said “dreaded” compared to Chap and Laurel. It really isn’t that bad like other poster said compared to UT’s dorms.

what about AP credit should I use my AP scores at UTSA for the credit or should I wait until I go to texas?

I have a 5 in spanish language and I’m taking macro-economics, psychology and English IV this year.

Send the scores to UTSA. UT will accept any class that UTSA gives you credit for.

UTSA will automatically apply the AP credits (whether you want them or not) if they receive the scores. AP credits (and dual credit) do NOT count towards the CAP contract requirements, so make sure you will still have enough classes to take to fulfill the contract!
If you don’t send the scores to UTSA, you will have to petition (and pay $6 per credit hour) to have the credits added to your record at UT.
UT and UTSA have different cut-off scores to earn credit, but like flatxca mentioned, UT will honor the credits that UTSA includes on your transcript.

True. You may want to see your scores and consider which classes you want credit for. There are plenty of classes to take, but you want to make sure you can take classes where you will achieve success.

If you have enough credits, you could apply as a transfer for the spring semester. This can be a bit tricky, so it is not for everyone.

what about frats if i rush in UTSA, supposing the frat I get into has a chapter in texas, whenever I transfer in my sophomore year am I gonna have to rush again?

^ Not sure about that one, most likely you might have to unless you can get someone to voch for you at UT. Also, there were a few fratenities that were put on probabtion when I was there so I had to re-rush at UT.

ah I see AAli, thanks how was the frat life in UTSA? how much did you have to pay?

AAli, did you join one fraternity at UTSA and then rush again and joined a different fraternity at UT?

I thought that whatever fraternity you joined, you were in “permanently,” so if you wanted to be Greek later at UT, you would join a frat at UTSA that exists - and you liked - at UT, so you could be - at least - some type of member there. (This is the way it works for sororities, so I thought the policy was the same for fraternities.) It has been suggested that you can find answers to questions like this by reading old threads on greekchat.com.

Be very careful not to post anything there that could identify you.

also during orientation do you register for the classes you are gonna take both semesters or just for the fall semester ones?

Just the fall semester.

thanks, also am I gonna have a chance to take my math placement exam during the orientation or do i have to take it before it?

If you take it before, you can take it for a second time if you need to at orientation. The site is pretty confusing, but yes, you do have a chance at orientation to take it.

UTSA has a very limited greek life. their fraternities are: Kappa Sigma, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Pi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Pi (i dont think im forgetting any). i’m going to be honest with you, fraternities at UTSA are completely different than the ones at UT. if you want to rush, i’d tell you to go ahead and wait for your sophomore year. as biased as this may sound, the only respectable fraternity at UT out of the ones that UTSA has is Sig Ep. the other ones are kind of looked down on.

i’d recommend you visit each house at UT (at least from far away) and make your own decision. for example, if you were to stand outside the TKE house compared to the Sig Ep house at UT, you’d see what i’m talking about.

thanks, and how does the process work, am I gonna get contacted by texas before the end of the fall semester? do i have to send a transcript after my fall semester?

UTSA will automatically send your fall grades to UT. You’ll register for your spring classes through ASAP in early November. It will be your responsibility to make sure the classes will fulfill the CAP contract, but you can meet with a CAP advisor to make sure you are on track.

To: texasyall

UT does “contact” you but all they do is send you an email and a letter that’s it. Also, don’t waste your time calling UT with any transfer issues because these guys throw a hissy fit and will tell you to talk to your CAP adviser.

Listen to AAli4Real…AND your CAP adviser may not know everything either! You are responsible. Look at the sheet they give you. Do not take a class that is not on the sheet and get your math requirement in. (If you call UT 3 times, you will prob get 3 different answers!)

oh and a heads up, double check whatever your advisor tells you to take because my friend’s advisor didn’t tell he she needed to take writing comp 1 & 2. she didn’t take them and she didn’t meet the cap contract… and she’s still at utsa.
