Any advice for a future Stanford Transfer applicant?

Well ever since I was 12, I've wanted to go to Stanford for undergrad. But after slackin off somewhat in High School, I deferred my number one to Berkeley, but still dreamt of Stanford for grad school. Well now I've been rejected to Berkeley and will probably attend UC Davis. I'm going to work my butt off and try to transfer into Stanford after my freshman year. Any advice on what to do while I attend Davis in order to maximize my chances of getting in as a transfer to Stanford? Comments?

High School Stats:
Weighted GPA from 10-12 about 3.8
SAT I Math: 710
SAT I Verbal: 650

-42 posted this in another thread . . . it's the current alumni magazine's cover story, which is about Stanford transfers . . . it will give you an idea of what they're looking for, although it's magazine fluff:

Hey can u guyz give me some advice on wat i should do that can help me look more selective to haas besides the usual of getting all A's

Bio:
High school: got accepted to UC Davis, Irvine didnt go
rejected from haas
GPA: 3.83, 4.2 weighted
completed AP Physics, Calculas, and Honors Econ

To CC student : i am also going to attend Chabot College, can we maybe hook up or somethin in order for me to know the 411 i need to know, at ny time u have avaible will be fine with me

Aright Thankz

5 steps to succeed in a CC transfer

Check if your CC have any special agreements with CAL or any other school you want to transfer to.(TAP for UCLA, TAG for UCSD etc.)

Make sure you complete IGETC and major prep work before you apply

You need a high GPA around 3.7 for Haas

Do some EC's

Find a major you like fast and stick to it.

As for Stanford you'll need a 4.0 and have some damn impressive EC's

Prophasi, you can do it....Besides getting the Az and doing EC...you have to do one more thing...raise up your SAT I and SAT II scores...Stanford values transfer students with good SAT score and good college GPA...So, while you are completing your lower divs set aside some time for test prep...

Your math score can be raised up easily with PRACTICE...
For verbal, try to read a lot and read "widely" (topics)

In worst case even if you don't get in, the knowledge still remains !!

Good Luck.

Prophasi, I was in your position last year (before I didn't end up going to Davis). If I were you, I'd take a light courseload but get into some intense research work ASAP. Then that'll be your selling point.

Thanks a lot everyone!

A sincere advice, based on my calculations from the stanford book, the chance of transfering is 1%>, if i remember correctly.
I applied EA
1400 SAT I
2110 SAT II
4.0
great ec
bad essay
rejected straight out, mind that EA chance is >>>>>>>>>transfer chance
I will be going to a "community college", and although i would like to study at stanford, I think it's too late. I suggest that we put our money in our pocket and not waste it on Stanford, try transfer to other schools, like UVA, Gtown and Cornell etc. gl

You need to do something to really set yourself apart. Tons of UC students try to transfer to Stanford. The research idea is a good one, but it needs to be in an area where Stanford has a lot to offer and Davis does not. You need to open up communications with Stanford profs in your research area who can support your application. Also agree you need to raise your scores.

yeah well, wat bout gettin into Haas or USC's business school as a transfer i have heard that is much easier than standford's is it and wat do u guyz think the requirements would be in gettin accepted

hahah...HAAS AND MARSHALL is hardcore. You better have 3.8+ and i strongly stress the PLUS. Get some GOOD ECs and start writing you PS NOW! lol =X no...but dont put it off get it started =)

I would suggest meeting with a prof and taking him/her out to a nice lunch and chatting with them

if they talk to the admin office, you are in!

Not necessarily. It helps, but it will not get you admitted outright.

I'm in the same position. I want to transfer to Stanford or another top tier university. I'm probably goin to USC this fall (it gave me a awesome grant). My SAT score on the new one is 2250 and SAT II I got 800 Math IIC, and 750 for Physics. I went to high school in Australia and I was ranked in the top 1.3% of the state based on statewide exams. I had a six month gap in my education so I'm working as an intern in the financial and IT departments of Countrywide financial Corporation (Fortune 500 company, #1 Mortgage banking corporation in US) for 6 months full-time. Along with this, I'm doing research at Indiana University (My uncle hooked me up) in July and August. If i got some more ECs and a 4.0 GPA (I honestly believe i could do so, the college maths here is very easy compared to Australian college and 12th grade maths and i'm good at my sciences), would top tier universites be accepting me? I'm going as a EE major.. Thanks

I'll give you some advice, either on what to do or what not to do, in late May-- when I get my decision!
