Any advice for a high school junior?

Hi,

I'm a high school junior now, and enrolled in all the honors and AP classes that my school offers, with the exception of math. I'm in regular Algebra II due to my average-slightly above average grades in math over the years. In my school, I'm a year ahead in science. I got B's in Honors Bio freshman year but that was due to laziness and other reasons. I also got a B in Honors Chemistry last year, but I'm getting an A+ in Honors Anatomy and Physiology this year. I am in love with A & P, more specifically Biochemistry, and I would love to major in Biochem for college.

Will the fact that I am in regular math and have B's (one C in the first semester of Geometry last year) in math kill my chances of becoming a Biochem major in college? I'm applying to UConn next year.

I have A+'s in every class...psych, history, english, and spanish (all honors). I have a stellar grade in my Anatomy and Phys class this year, and will take AP Bio next year.

Any tips?
I can't retake any math classes or skip ahead or whatever...at least for this year.... I'm moving to Connecticut next summer, so I'll be attending public school for my senior year and maybe they'll let me skip ahead on the math and I'll be able to take Calculus before I graduate. Or else it'll just be Pre-Calc.

Am I on the right track for a Biochem major at UConn? Thanks!!!!!!!!!

I've only gotten one C in my entire life... and will NEVER get another one....

math is my weakness...

You’re fine. Do well on the SATs/ACTs, and you’ll be set. Ideally, you want at least a 1700 to get into UConn. Just breathe, and take one thing at a time.

I am a junior, too, and honestly, what’s done is done. You can’t undo that C in geometry, or those other Bs in math, so don’t stress yourself out over it too much. Just try your best in the rigorous classes you’re taking, and ask for extra help if necessary. That’s all you really can do, unless you feel you need to drop a course to do well. Good luck!

Thank you sooooo sooo much!!! I will do all of that. Maybe when I go to public school next year, I’ll be able to skip pre-calc by like, taking it over the summer or something and go into AP Calculus. Is there any way I could approach my new guidance counselor about that? Because I don’t think it’s possible to take Pre-calc and AP Calc at the same time :P

I’m also considering Penn State. Am I okay for that? :)
