I'm going to take ap bio and I'm really nervous about it. Can you tell me what I'm going to have to study? Is the ap exam hard? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

You’ll learn about a lot of processes (photosynthesis, DNA replication, etc.) that are easier to understand if you’re good at visualizing things.

The AP: Biology exam has a low 5 rate, but hard work should pay off. It’s mostly memorization of vocab, and visualizing things. However, the depth you cover in AP: Biology may pose a challenge to some students. I recommend studying up a little bit over the summer, So your ahead of the curve when schools starts up!

For us, we learned about metabolic processes (cellular respiration, photosynthesis), genetics (DNA replication/translation, reviewed inheritance and meiosis/mitosis), homeostasis (regulation mechanisms such as negative feedback loops), some organ systems (primarily immune and excretory, although we covered the others in previous years), and population dynamics. If you want to get ahead, reading through the Campbell Reece textbook is a great place to start.

Personally, I found the AP exam to be light on details and memorization, but heavy on the “big concepts” and being able to apply what you know.

^Last sentence is very true. Don’t get too hung up on memorizing every little detail, as the AP exam tests reading comprehension and science skills along with some more specific facts. Make sure you know the concepts well.
