My rising ninth-grader son took the ACT in June and made a 30, which is exactly what he needs to dual enroll in college courses. Without the 30 he would have had to wait until his junior year. Any college course he takes will go on his high-school transcript on a 4.5 scale, so there is a benefit to taking college courses. AP courses are on a 5.0 scale, but he can't take any of these his ninth-grade year and the number available in 10th grade is limited.

My son is off at an academic camp which is going to be followed by a family vacation, so I've got to do some footwork for him to see if I can get his dual enrollment approved by his high school and Ole Miss.

I'd love to hear from any students who dual enrolled in ninth or tenth grade or otherwise. In particular I'm curious how much it interfered with school life. My thinking is that he might sign up for a couple of courses which meet at 8 a.m. both MWF and TTh. He can then go to school at roughly 10 a.m. every day.

My son is eager to give a college course or two a shot. I just don't want him to become too far separated from the high school experience. I might also add that I personally found college courses to be much easier than high school courses. Everything was just written down in advance, and if you did the work you got a good grade. Just my experience.

Anyway, any advice or observations?
