Actually TT like kids from rural New Mexico, particularly the southern and eastern counties which border on TX. Not kids from the Albuquerque-Santa Fe-Los Alamos corridor who anecdotally have not had any luck there.

wow thanks for this info!! i’ll get on the TMDAS asap. Also, so should i just apply to all the UT’s if im not mistaken.

Yes, apply to all the allopathic schools, the incremental cost per additional school is minimal.

DD got 2 interview invites from TX schools, as I recall one was Lubbock as an OOS candidate. Definitely go for TX and do it ASAP as the application cycle began in May. As I recall, the first TX app was the main cost, the rest for another $10 each, so you might as well do them all since the add on costs are so cheap.

The TX app had some longer secondary type questions up front so be prepared to address those

Some fo the TX schools stated a preference for neighboring states or even certain zip codes.

^ Also, some (more than a half?) TX schools do not require secondaries. After you have submitted the TMDSAS primary, transcript verifications and LORs, basically you are done for these schools and just sit back and wait. Some even do not welcome any update after a certain date.

Another advantage is that you will not be “tortured” by waiting: While some other medical schools will keep you waiting until next spring before announcing the result, most of TX schools give out the majority of their admittance as early as Nov. 15 and most others by Feb. 1.

Some IS applicants were complaining many OOSs come here to “leach” on their state schools, because these OOS students not only take advantage of the low tuition here but also take some (usually not much) free $ (unless you are from certain zip codes. :))

I’m about to submit the TMDSAS. i have one last question regarding the residency part of the app. I put california as my state of residency, but there Optional Question, which asks:
“Please enter any further information we should know regarding your residency:”

Is this where i should try to describe my interest in texas?
