im gonna graduate from high school next year and plan to apply to the following colleges for engineering(mostly aero):
purdue
georgia tech
ut austin
uiuc
university of michigan
penn state
virginia tech(maybe)
usc
ucla
my sat scores are
sat1-1980(math-700,reading-650,writing-630)
sat subject tests-not given as yet(expecting 670+ in math2 and chem)
i got a 95.2% in my 10th boards and am currently studying in isc science
i hav great ec's but the only problem are my 11th grades they arent good at all (69%)
so id like to know if i have a chance at any of these universities and would also like to know about the social life, academics at these colleges
thanks in advance :D

anyone???

These universities do not provide aid to international students so I am assuming you are not looking for aid.
I think you have a good chance at Purdue and Penn state and decent shot at UIUC and UT Austin. Admission in UCLA and UMICH is a bit more competitive but anyway go for it.
And check out Embry Riddle. It is a great university for aerospace engineering

thank you sm1995,as a matter of fact financial aid would be great but for that i would have to be accepted to stanford or something, which is highly unlikely.
and what about georgia tech and usc??
yes i know about embry riddle but i am considering it as a safety school.
will taking the sat subject tests help me for umich?? as it is my top choice or should i just retake the sat1 again??

UMich doesn’t require sat subject tests so I don’t think taking it will help. Take SAT1 again if you can. I think the maths score can be increased after some practice.
Georgiatech is also competitive and being an international student (that too from India) doesn’t help.
So if you can take sat1 again, go for it.

will applying early action for umich help???
i know umich doesnt require the subject tests but will it be useful if i send them anyway?
ive heard purdue has a high dropout rate, why is that???
also among these schools where is it easier to maintain a good gpa?? or which has a less rigorous course?
my counselor tells me that i will require a 2200 on my sat1 to get into ut austin,is it really that high??? beacuse i see ut as one of my top choices since the social life as well as the academics is very good there??
anyone that could answer these questions? would really appreciate this
and thanks in advance :D

bump!!! anyone?

Bro U should retake sat 1 it would be a good application if if U have 2200+ In sat

Unless you go to a very large school or a very well known school see if you can negotiate your
11th final scores by letting you write a re-test or scoring well in your class tests since you are smart and can study
( read: use that 95% to some good use ).

This may look shady but people in our graduating class have used this.

i cant re-take my 11th finals but the thing is that my school generally gives everyone low grades, hence the 69%.yet i am in the top 5% of my class and i can get a letter from the principal saying so,will that help?
and yeah i will make use of that 95%
what about getting into uiuc? ive heard a lot of indians get accepted there?

Yeah, um, don’t worry too much about the 69%. 11th marks drop in almost every school around the country. Make sure your counsellor clearly mentions (highlights would be the operative word) your rank in his/her rec letter and your transcript, if possible.
Answering a couple of your questions,
Yes, a comparatively larger number of Indians get into UIUC.
You asked about Early Action somewhere above. YES, whenever you can, APPLY EARLY ACTION. It helps. Even if the higher acceptance rates don’t convince you (yeah, I know and understand the other side of that argument. Don’t yell at me, peeps. >.>) it’s great for you as an applicant to spread out the application process and give yourself more time, not to mention the perspective you’ll gain at the end of October.
Good luck. :)

thanks firefliesdance, im definitely applying early action to uiuc but probably wont to michigan beacuse that way ill can give the sat again and get a higher score which would increase my chances in the regular app :D
