Any American Honors students in SFS out there?

My DD was accepted to Honors SFS. She is very uncertain. We visited, but the rep of the school is worrying her. Her stats are impressive. She is trying to decide beween American, UofCh and Amherst. Help! I need to know your experiences - internships, opportunities, kind of kids in honors, etc. She couldn’t make the overnight - draconean school attendance policy (her words, not mine.)

Oops! I meant SIS

I am in Honors and in SIS... I was also concerned that American wasn't as big of a name as other schools when I was applying. However, within the International Relations field, it is well known, and there is nothing that can compare to studying this in Washington, DC, the capital of the most powerful country in the world. I am a freshman, and have not had an internship yet, but plan to do two or three while I'm here. My classes have been amazing, challenging, and have awesome professors. SIS professors tend to have personal experience in the field and are really into sharing that with their students. The other wonderful thing about AU is all the events/lectures outside of class that are available. So many ambassadors, experts from think tanks, etc. etc. come here because they live and work in the city anyway, and are therefore easily accessible. I've seen so many wonderful experts on various topics, as well as big names (John Edwards was here last week, saw John Glenn last semester, Arthur Dewey, Ari Fleischer, Tucker Carlson, governor of Puerto Rico, Julian Bond - who also teaches an honors class here, and so on). Plus, there are things happening all over the city that students go to. I am focusing on Asia, so I went to a forum at the IMF about China's economic changes.

I'd be willing to answer any questions you have, feel free to email me - it's hard for me to explain my entire year here without knowing more specifically what you want to know! lg9421a@american.edu
