i'm a US citizen thinking of applying to cambridge in the uk. anyone else doing something similar, like American university in Paris or any other uk schools? how is the whole process different?

Cambridge has a very tough entrance requirement. (I was turned down! grrr..) From what I know of, you can't apply to both Cambridge and Oxford. Meaning, if you have applied to Cambridge, your application ot Oxford will not be processed. Aside from Cambridge, maybe you should also consider Warwick, Imperial, LSE, UCL, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Bristol. These schools have a large concentration of American students.

Or, you may study in Australia. There are a number of excellent schools in Australia too. The big ones and obviously the more reputable are:
1. Australian National University
2. U of Melbourne
3. U of New South Wales
4. U of Sydney
5. Monash
6. Macquarie

If you want to study in Japan, Consider Waseda and Keio universites because you have an option to be taught in English.

There are also a lot of excellent unis in Hong Kong and Singapore with a large concentration of Americans.

The Philippines is also a haven for foreign students because English is the medium of Instruction in all Philippines schools. The top universities in the Philippines in order of prestige are: University of the Philippines (UP), De La Salle (DLSU), Ateneo de Manila (ADMU), University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) and University of Santo Tomas (UST). Surprisingly, the education in the Philippines is very, very affordable but the quality is very, very good.

you'll want to get a move on it if you want to apply to cambridge. the overseas applications are due either sept. 15 or 20 (i can't remember).

UCAS is the UK central organisation through which applications are processed for entry to higher education: www.ucas.ac.uk
