I'm planning to go to med school and am considering taking the anthropology route because I do not want to take upper division courses in bio and science.

I am also considering psychobiology as it in involves psychology which I am interested in.

do anthro students have a disadvantage when applying to med school since it's not bio-focused?

In regards to whether or not anthropology majors have a disadvantage...it doesn't really matter what your major is to get into medical school. All that really matters is your GPA in your science classes (the required pre-med ones), and your MCAT.

I'm also applying to UCLA as an anthropology major. However, I'm not sure what the difference in B.A. and B.S. is either...it would be great if someone could clarify!

if youre going pre-med then go the B.S. route since the lower div pre-requisites are the same for medical school (LS core curriculum) other than that, which degree to get doesnt matter, just as long as you have one =)

dont just take it because you wont have upper div bio classes. There are tons of majors at UCLA and you can major in ANY of them and still go to med school. Bottom line, major in something your interested in.

does anyone who is actually in this major (or knows about it) have anything to say about it?
How is the UCLA anthropology department? Is it easy/hard? How are the professors? Is the program rewarding?
thanks!

anthro major is easy, i know a couple of people at my work who are doubling in something else and anthro b/c most anthro classes are easy.

the diffrence between the BA/BS is the lower divison courses. FOr the BS you have to take PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, ORGANIC, and BIOLOGY, this is not required for the BA.

That's the only difference though? Just the lower division courses? When I looked at the UCLA website, they had those different subconcentrations listed under the BA, but not the BS. Does that mean if I want to take a social-cultural emphasis in anthro, I would have to do BA? Or does it apply to BS too?
