So what do you all plan on utilizing your major for? Why did you all choose to major in anthropology? I wanna be a doctor, but my other passions are languages and learning about cultures; so I'm double majoring in international studies and anthropology.

I'm an anthro major at UT-Austin...currently a sophomore...First off, anthro is such a broad subject. Anyone can find something they like with it. I really enjoy physical anthro, especially primate studies, however, I like cultural anthro as well. Most likely, I will go to grad school in the future...however, many anthro majors from my school have gone on to law, business, and med schools...

Just remember anthro is not just about cultures and languages. I like to think that an anthro degree is for people who enjoy a little bit of everything.

I'm considering archaeology because I'm interested in culture, traveling, writing, and I think going on a dig sounds entirely fascinating--if not asininely slow, but the best work comes with time, etc.......

I like Anthro because I want a deeper understanding of human diversity and behavior. I'm a pretty progressive person and I want to make a positive impact on humanity, and I like the way Anthro is an holistic way of studying people. I think other areas of study are out of touch with humanity, especially in Economics (which might be my second major) where it seems like they dehumanize people. I also like studying power in a broad sense. So, I study some postmodern philosophy and how it relates to culture and power structures within culture. Basically, it's a really broad field and everything else is pretty constricting for me.

I think I'll probably go on the grad school, get my Ph D and become a professor. Being a tenured prof is my dream job.

that's a good response. Anth is a decent major--there are a lot of different approaches you can take to it, as well as a variety of careers. It combines well with other majors too. I'm considering double majoring in archaeology or anthropology and english.

im also considering anthro and english. especially since i want to go into medicine, possibly with an overseas aid group, i think studying cultural anthro would be very beneficial.

oh, nice! what school are you/will you be attending?
