Um, I would say a good student is more than their GPA. "In every case" also ignores the acceptance rate. But seriously, it's not a big deal. We're both wrong. Clearly Undeclared-Humanities is the most competitive. 4.00 GPA for the ONLY admit! WOW!

I think bus econ is still the most competitive for a few different factors, than econ and comm. are about tied, and than bio. As I said global studies was not very hard to get into last year and this year supposably is 4-5 around the same level as bio. Also communications does consider TAP I am not sure who said that. I know a few people from my ccc that got into comm with around 3.5 with TAP.

When you guys say you didn't finish a pre-req, are you talking about not finishing it during the application filing period, or simply never taking the class at all?

As long as the pre-req is completed prior to transferring, it doesn't matter when the class is taken.

I have a 3.75 GPA and I'm applying to Comm. with TAP...I have tons of extra-curriculars clubs, student government, volunteer work and an internship) all my pre-reqs are done as well.

do I have a shot?

also...how is Sociology w/ TAP? that might be my alternate major and I really want to get into UCLA with it, if I were to be rejected from Comm.

^ If you have completed or will be completing sociology's major pre-req's by spring 09', then yes, your chances stand high.

TAP doesn't help comm applicants. but it will help give you the option of an alternative major.

also, tr3bor is wrong; a "crapload" of bus/econ majors with TAP were not rejected as far as I could tell last year. In fact i don't think any of the econ/ bizecon majors w/ tap that applied from my CC were rejected last year. All I can give is anecdotal evidence but...

I was admitted with TAP into UCLA as an econ major with a 3.75 and a lower prerequisite GPA

A good friend of mine was admitted with TAP as a bizecon major into UCLA with a 3.66 GPA

An acquaintance was admitted into UCLA bizecon last year with a 3.3 GPA

those are all cases that I specifically remember. You're only in trouble if you're missing a prereq or have a ridiculously low applying GPA...like below the minimum.

also beardy, from what i've seen timing of prereqs is somewhat important. you want to have a majority (ideally all) of your prereqs completed by the time of application.

It also does come down to other parts of your application. Even if you have a 4.0 in your pre-reqs and a overall GPA above the average admitted biz/econ, (I think it's 3.82?) if your personal statements are bad and/or your ECs are non-existent, you might not get in.

I was realllllly involved last semester (senator, committees, volunteer, work, tutor....officer for both AGS and PTK)

but an UCLA rep told me those ec are not really important. sigh! my GPA is avg with LA TAP....I'm scared!

so when you're TAP and get considered for your alternate major, will that alternate major be TAP certified as well? or are you only TAP certified for your first choice major?

I think you're misinterpreting what "TAP certified" is. Your major is not TAP certified, you as a student are. Being TAP certified allows you certain privileges, such as the alternate major and priority admission.

Well, Clearly it is obvious, that most of the rejects are of the major, Biz/Econ, Global studies, Biology.
These are extremely competitive majors.
MY UCLA rep, told me that TAP certification is more or less a boost of .2 GPA.
I hope that clears all the doubts.

Oh I see...so you don't think they will give less priority when considering the alternate major (because of the fact that its just an alternate)?

bump......

global studies being competitive last year. sure hope this year is different. I am not tap certified so let’s see what happens

Searched back for some anecdotal posts about being rejected with TAP.

Business Econ
- GPA: 3.75
- GPA: 4.0

I think the only people rejected with TAP are those in ridiculously impacted majors, have ridiculously low GPAs, or are missing pre-reqs.

when you apply to an impacted major and are missing a prereq you will be declined even if you have a 4.0. tap cant help you there. ucla takes prereqs seriously. i know someone who got into ucla with bus econ with a 3.1 bec he had all his prereqs done and tap.

KingInc, what about no tap and finished prereqs by this semester global studies with a 3.75 GPA how do you see my chances there?

KingInc, so are you telling me that because i am doing 1 prereq right now and dont have another due to it being canceled, i will be rejected from ucla? im a poli sci major.

please, elaborate.
