Okay, so I am not a recruited athlete but I want to try out for the soccer team next year if I am accepted. I emailed the coach earlier, and just called today and left a message saying I was interested.
I’m submitting an athletic supplement, and I was wondering if anyone was also sending in a supplement on CC. My coach tells me that I could play at any DIII school, I’m just not All-State etc.
I’m wondering if it’s a little late to start talking “more officially” (?) with the coach.
Recruiting is a pretty foreign concept to me so I need a little help with how to go about this… although I was recruited by a DII team in MN by letter, but only informally and I’m not interested.

I just want to hear if anyone is planning on continuing their sport at Bowdoin and what steps you have taken to show interest etc.

I'm in almost the same position as you are. I run cross country, and plan to continue into college, but I'm no All-State athlete, either. The good thing is, at Bowdoin, you can be an "average" athlete and still compete, for the most part.
I'm sure its different for soccer, seeing as the team is much larger, but for cross country, I wasn't recruited because I wasn't good enough. The coach focuses on "a couple" outstanding athletes to push in admissions, and thats it. But I met with him in his office anyway, and emailed him several times, just so he knew who I was, what I had done, and that I was still very interested.
I'd say its never too late to talk to the coach. Call him/her if you can't visit, and elaborate on your accomplishments and such. Make sure you make it very clear that you are definitely interested in playing on the team if you are accepted. You never know what could happen!

Thanks for your input :)
