any average people applying

hmmmm if you want average, look at mine
1350/1980
3.84 UW
28/822
690 640 590

enough said

thats still above to me.

im just like u but i was accepted ed1...
1380/2030 sat (730m,650v,660w)
3.6/4
720 math2c
610 bio

no good ec's either...im not sure how i got in

atcq123, which school did you apply to?

feeling better. glad there are some reg guys applying. cause i would not fit in with all of you over the top guys even if i managed to get accepted. i have good grades, good scores, great ec, great volunteer, and maybe very good essays but none of my stuff is exceptional.
gpa has even gone down with my aps.

all of you so called 'average guys' are way about average. especially mr. 730 on the math. it makes me wonder if yall are joking.

melosyracuse- I think the post is for people who are average compared to some of the people posting who have 2300s and #1 in their class. Obviously if you applied to any school like Vanderbilt you are above average.

birdie-arts and sciences

yeah, so of the average guys seem like the ones that I thought were far above that? hope we all have a shot, anyway.
And new info to give us an idea about when we hear?

atcq. APPLYING to vanderbilt doesnt make u above average. any dumbass can APPLY to vanderbilt.

i assumed that if you applied to vanderbilt then you think you have a shot at getting it...

also if you exclude the top 20% of applicants who all have those perfect applications and the bottom group of "dumbasses" who applied as a joke that would leave all the kids who are average for Vanderbilt's standards. And that is what this is for.

I define average as a person who has an interest in the university and live a fairly normal lifestyle with a few hobbies and interests they are passionate about. These grades show nothing more than a few hours a week spent studying and doing hw. The standardized scores can also be studied for by anyone. My stats are decent as will be shown later, but when looked at by course breakdown, I am not perfect and will never claim to be.

Enough of the rant.
1460/2070 SAT
3.71 UW GPA at end of junior year
mid year report of 3.43 UW
34/287 CR, top 16 have 4.0/5.14 UW/W GPAs

I enjoy lacrosse and playing the clarinet.

anyone who is average out there applying to peabody?

or who got in early decision I or II?

i applied regular to peabody for peabody. apparently people will apply to peabody and then transfer to arts and sciences becuase peabody is easier to get into.

ha... yall have nothing on me...wishing i had applied ed1 or 2

GPA 3.2 (this year a 4.2... weird what happens when you really try)
ACT 30
SAT 760math 640 verbal 570 writingyikes(hoping my 4 on the english AP will help ease the shock of that)
Sports- Golf Hockey, no leadership possitions in either(i got screwed out of hockey captain b/c we had a new coach)
Classes... full course loads.. plenty of APs
ECs... tons of stuff
Great recs

Other sorta helpful things... i go to a REALLY good private school... very well known.... vandy essays were great..(except i mispelled one damn word at the end of the 1st gr)
Race: Half Indian(Asia) half white... hoping they're counting me as indian as i'd expect that to be an urm there... hopefully

I don't really know what else... but i hope they see that i've been very successful in classes of MY choice this year which will(i feel) better represent how i perform in college

flashback, you sound like me except switch math and writing. i get 800s on writing and 34-35 with Act but the math drags me down. higher gpa but not as high as most. 3.9uw. tons of cs, tons of ec, and i write very good papers and essays but still my gc thought vandie was a long long shot! so how does everyone with 21 and 22 on act get into here? i am very confused. i have read posts on different college sites that show kids with very low gpas and sat or act and they are getting accepted. please, no knock to them. just seems like the schools are setting some kids up for a big fall once they get there?
am i way off base here?

i get what you are saying vatownsend...doesn't sound off base at all to me.

people with 21 and 22's on the acts are/have gotten into vandy?! yikes....i can see someone with a 25ish who has done absolutely excelent at a school that simply didn't prepare him maybe getting in..... but getting in on a 21... i don't even see that happening if mommy and daddy made a nice donation

High ACT and SAT scores do not guarantee success at any school - ever think that maybe hardworking, intelligent people can score low on tests and still succeed? Like you said, it's about the "best fit" for the school. And I honestly feel that although test scores may be important for the application process, they do not really define a person.

no they don't but we are not talking about a mid range score here. a 21-22 on act is very low. i have friends with 26 that could not get into very good schools but not as selective as vandie. and so for gpa. a low gpa could mean a lot of things but you and i both know that vandie is not going to acept most students with low scores and grades. only point was it might be setting kids up for failure. even auburn does not accept kids with very low scores. and everyone knows that auburn takes most that apply.

i think I need to clarify something. by average I meant middle of the road scores and middle of the road grades. so for everyone that is debating this, I consider something between 3.5-3.8 middle and ACT between 25-28 and SAT between maybe 1800-1900 on new and 1200-1300 on old. average maybe different for everyone but for college admissions I would think my averages are what is average? I cannot imagine that average is 21. But I may be wrong.

just seems like the schools are setting some kids up for a big fall once they get there?
am i way off base here?

I agree with your comment about how an ACT score of 20-22 is low, however my only comment is that someone's not going to fail just because he or she cannot do well on a standardized test. And honestly, I don't know that someone with a 22/23 cannot get into a school like Vanderbilt because I'm not an admissions officer. A mexican/jamaican girl on another forum claims she was just accepted with an ACT of 23 and and SAT section scores in the 500's. My point is that people cannot be defined by their SAT/ACT scores. Here's an example: one of my friends is a national merit scholar- but doesnt do anything in class. He's doing really poorly because he doesn't feel that he should have to do homework. I just thought it was a little narrowminded, considering the vast diversity of a school like Vanderbilt, to say that a certain score defines one's success there.
