Any Barrett decisions yet?

Oh dear sorry @outofaz. Your son can request a re-review by 1/31/19. I did have that information on hand just in case.

@outofaz : I agree your son’s stats and my D’s are very comparable, which is why I was very concerned when I saw he was rejected. I am surprised your son was rejected. @jellybean5 is right though that students who were rejected in this round can ask for reconsideration. I remember someone on this board did that last year and got accepted during re-review. Good luck!

@Corinthian @jellybean24 i called and spoke with the admissions dept. was told his test scores were “not the problem” and we will talk with them further tomorrow. i’m also curious - how do we know what is written in letters of recommendation from school counselor and teacher? do you have any insight? i was told over the phone that it is “unlikely decisions are reversed” through re-review.

@outofaz the person whose kid got in last year on re-review is @EOTYN1.

@outofaz I couldn’t tell you a thing, I know nothing. I didn’t even read my D’s essays. I did read the thread for acceptances to Barrett last year like @Corinithian and I remember reading that one student getting in through re-review. Which is why I made a note of it. In last year’s acceptance thread it didn’t seem that there was a “definite type” of student that was accepted, which is why my D applied. I doubt that helps you any but I hope you get some better answers from ASU Barrett.

My D was accepted yesterday – AZ resident, 4.0 uw GPA (don’t remember weighted – she took all the comparatively limited number of honors/AP courses available), 1540 SAT, “standard” school/regional ECs. She also participated in the “Barrett Summer Scholars” summer camps in middle school, FWIW.

Sorry to hear of the denial, @outofaz – I hope the discussion today with the Barrett folks at the very least helps bring some clarity. I don’t have any further suggestions… good luck.

Did anyone else get an Exploring Excellence invite? Don’t throw away that postcard! I was surprised that they gave it to her before admission to Barrett, but it was good for a trip through April. This is one to be on the lookout for! I do admire ASU won’t give a straight up fly in, and you have to select a date before they email you back with the reimbursement amount. For those that want to know, DD was offered $250 from DAL, quite a good value considering we probably would have made a trip anyway. Her ticket on Southwest is $305 so a nice portion covered. She has a day scheduled geared toward Barrett stuff, 8-4 and then staying overnight with a Barrett student.

@HCopter when did your D receive that postcard? I just looked through my file, didn’t see it. I recall getting a postcard or two a few months ago for things going on in the fall, but we couldn’t go then, so I ignored them…

For what it’s worth (i.e., for the people looking at this thread next year), my D got a hard-copy packet of her acceptance letter and brochure material from Barrett yesterday. (She was accepted on Dec. 19, so it seems perhaps they didn’t process the envelopes until after the New Year’s break.) Neither she nor I (from a parent perspective) found it very useful, though. (The letter is already available on the portal.)

@BorgityBorg We got the same envelope yesterday and I agree there was no new info there.

Thanks @BorgityBorg then we can look forward to receiving that packet for fun. My D really got a kick out of the acceptance envelope from ASU several months ago. It will really make it feel like things are getting real.

Just an FYI. Looks like not only are they raising tuition from last year, but Barrett fees are going up to $1000 per semester (instead of $750 semester)

Anyone know if it is too late to attempt applying to Barrett? S was accepted to aerospace engineering but will be switching to the School of Earth and Space Exploration and he thinks Barrett might be a good compliment for that. I read something about applying for Late Consideration II by March 31, but is it even worth it? is it full at this point?

It definitely isn’t too late. They are still taking people off a waitlist and my guess is if impressive students apply, they may get a quicker notification. My daughter was accepted to engineering and Barrett, but also thinking of moving to SESE if she decided to go to the school. Is he looking at Exploration Systems Design? That is what she was looking at with a minor in Astronomy. It’s a tough choice, but I love the options ASU have.

@NewSR1 There are so many great programs at SESE so he is undecided but the Exploration Systems Design is one of his favorites.

He’s beside himself with excitement at all the recent launches and the new missions ahead. He just wants to be a part of it.

S19 submitted his application this morning. It’s a long shot for him, but I told him he has nothing to lose.

Any new decisions? S’s app quickly moved to ‘complete’ but has not yet moved to ‘review.’ His chances were low to begin with, but I’m thinking they are getting lower by the day.

Hang in there @stem2017. Who knows what’s going on in the admissions offices at this point in the process. We’re still just over a month out from May 1st final decision day!

@STEM2017 According to the ASU Barret website, all Late Consideration II applicants will receive a decision by May 10th. https://barretthonors.asu.edu/admissions/freshman

At this point, it makes sense for them to wait until 5/1 to see how many people they’re already admitted decide to go elsewhere.
