Any benefit to putting a housing deposit down now, even though undecided about attending?

Michigan state is one of my daughter’s top choices. Should she send in a housing deposit? How fraught is the process for freshman housing?

@jagrren I believe we did. And I believe that it is refundable, so I don’t think you can lose. I would double check that though. I don’t know how the process is, but if its one of your finalists it’s probably worth it. Just double check on the refundable part.

We put our deposit down as well. It was in the top 2 for my son. He still didn’t hear from the other school. About a week ago he decided he’s going to MSU.

Thanks, guys!

The only advantage to submitting payment now is you can choose your orientation dates, and the earlier ones fill up quickly. It’s all refundable if you decide not to attend.

We just got back from the ADS weekend and learned of a few advantages of early deposit.

The deposit allows you to pick the exact dorm, exact room even, and schedule an orientation date. MSU is HUGE, the campus is very spread-out. By picking your dorm location early you can then do your schedule based on location and time…no big cross campus between classes and no 8am classes. MSU is HUGE…did I say that already?

The deposit is refundable if you cancel before May 1st.
