I've been taking AP Language and Composition this year, and I was wondering if there were any good prep books for it.
I'm getting my first B+ (I know, cry me a river...) and would really like to boost it to an A. I've always been good at English (I got the department award last year), and I do well on the long term essays, but the 40-minute writes bring my grade down. I consistently got 6's and now I'm getting 7's, but I've yet to make it into the 9 Club.
And I could always use improvement in multiple choice.
On the practice test, I got a 4 and my teacher told me I'm on his list of people he thinks will get a 5 come May. So that's a good sign. But I am interested in purchasing a nice review book that may help me out a bit.

A lot of people like the Cliffs book. I also like 5 Steps to a 5.

AP Language is tough to study for. Those acursed 40 minute writing sessions were my bane as well. Practice, I think is the best way to overcome time problems; that's how it was for me. I've transitioned from 6/7 territory to 8/9.

I got the 5 Steps to a 5 book even before the class started (at the recommendation of my English 10 teacher, but what does she know?), and I have yet to crack it open. The philosophy seems nice. Take a practice test and then see what you have to work on. That is, IMHO, especially important for English.

Good luck.

ad

Yeah, I know it's difficult to study for.
I'll probably do some more research and purchase at least one, just to supplement the class. The teacher is fantastic, and his students have generally done well.
It's the difficulty of studying that has me nervous!
So I guess for now it's just practice, practice, practice.

But I'm still open to suggestions!
