Hi,
Are there any brandeis '11 admits here?

try the brandeis thread (located in alphabetical list of colleges!)

I applied RD... '11 hopeful (if I decide to go there in the end :)), might see you this fall since it's one of my top choices!

cool,
it just seems like on this site brandeis doesn't get enough attention. This probably because of its small size.

my sister goes there.

took her two years to like it (just a warning)

whats so bad about it schmivy?

Probably too homogenous.

JEEEWWWSSS!@#$!@#
(hahaha, no no no, sorry, its just a joke, i didnt mean it that way, and i definately dont wanna offend anyone, i just had to say it ..)

i live in boston, i know ...

Its not offensive, just annoying. Brandeis isn't a Jewish school.

I'm Brandeis class of 2011 by the way.

Brandeis isn't a jewish school? Sure the official mission statements and stuff say it's non-sectarian, but look at where the funding comes from.

sooo, let me get this straight. Somebody's sister didn't like it and two people jumped in, assuming it was b/c it was "too homogeneous" or had lots of Jews attending??
Maybe the sister didn't like.... the cold Massachusetts weather, her roommate, the food, whatever.
Stats on Brandeis show an extremely high level of student satisfaction. I'm glad the sister finally caught on. GREAT school!

Brandeis was founded because elite schools were rejecting qualified students (such as Jews) because of the prejudices in the admissions process as well as quotas at that time. In that sense it welcomes diversity more than anything else, even if it doesn't get that diverse of an applicant pool...

and its Jewish % is decreasing year by year.

And yeah, I hear of people looooving Deis, all the time. People who weren't expecting much when they started but ended up having a great time. Deis just has its own...oddities, I guess.

(- hemingway, Deis '11, whose interest in Israeli politics stems from her close friend in the IDF, but other than that is just a big shiksa)

nauru, just because a school is funded by many Jewish sources, does not make it a Jewish school. Admittedly Brandeis is "more Jewish" than most other schools because of its background and because its student body is around 50% Jewish (compare to Barnard at 40% Jewish, or GWU at 35% Jewish).

Whatever, I'm very happy about where I'm going.

Yes, just_browsing, you have chosen an excellent school. My brother graduated from there around 25 years ago, went on to law school, is now a successful attorney in family law, but balances his time to take care of his family and go fishing, too.
He met his wife there, who went on to get an MBA, then became the business officer for a school district near their home, so they take great care of their two kids.
My cousin went there, then went on to medical school, and now teaches at Johns Hopkins University.
Does this sound like the kind of place that leads to a rewarding, professional, value-rich life of contentment? I'd say YES.
Good luck. You will meet many kinds of people at Brandeis. Your professors publish a lot and are nationally distinguished. Students I know how attend now love going in to Boston, which was not so easy 25 years ago when my family members attended.
