I have heard that brown has one of the top programs in applied mathematics. I’d like to hear more details from people at brown in this major. However, i understand that the majority of brown students do not go for a ScB.

I’m considering applying for transfer to brown as a sophomore in this major, hoping to go on for a masters in mathematical finance. any help or discussion is appreciated.

you heard it right. brown is indeed tops for applied mathematics. i don't have the details, but i'm not sure about the claim that people don't go for ScB.. i personally knew a lot of people that did ScB (including myself). however, i understand if some elect to go AB.. especially those with multiple interests (biology, econ) because it provides more freedom to take courses in other departments.

brown offers applied mathematics in economics concentration, which very much go in line with your interest in mathematical finance. there's also another concentration which might interests you: mathematical economics -- which drew many courses from the math department as opposed to from the applied math department.

also, if you're really into mathematical finance, i suggest you look strongly at Courant - NYU, they have one of the best applied math/finance department. I've also heard good things about UChicago and Columbia/Cornell/Princeton programs in Operation Research - Financial Engineering.
