My kid had originally planned on applying to Buxton, Mercersburg, Putney, St. James, and Berkshire, but after visiting Buxton she was in love and decided if she couldn’t go there, she didn’t want to go to boarding school. Fortunately, the school loved her back and she was admitted for fall 2019. I haven’t seen mention of Buxton much in these forums, aside from a few posts I found via search. Any parents out there with kids who attend/have attended Buxton? She goes to a tiny, progressive private school in the middle of nowhere now (8th grade) so I’m not surprised she felt so connected to Buxton when we visited last fall. She’s kind of a quirky, artsy, think-outside-the-box kind of kid, and thrives in environments that nurture that kind of personality (and learning style).
I don’t really have any specific questions, I’m more just looking for parents or students who are willing to share what they love about the school. Thank you!
Nice to see a thread for a new school here, @downislandgirl. I hope it gets some traction.
I hope so too but i have a feeling I’ll be in here alone later, drunk on chardonnay and talking to myself. lol
One of my colleagues has a family member at Buxton! (I’m excited because it’s never mentioned on the forum!) She’s a sophomore this year. She sounds like she has a lot in common with your girl. The younger D was accepted now, as well. Kid and her family absolutely love it. It’s very small but a perfect fit for her. I used to live in Williamstown and have attended some arts events there. Sweet little campus and nice people. Send me a PM if you’d like to connect – I’m sure she would be happy to be in touch with you about their experience.
I have a friend whose older daughter graduated from Buxton a few years ago and whose younger daughter is there now. The older one is a visual artist (now in college at the Art Institute in Chicago) and the younger is into music. It’s sounds like it’s been great for both girls. I can see if my friend could talk to you about her family’s experience if you’d like.
Hi - I’d love to here more about Buxton as well from a current or past parent. I’m looking at it for my 17 year old daughter. I just joined this forum, so unfortunately can’t seem to PM because this is my first post.
I’m considering Buxton for my daughter as well. Would love to chat about it.
