So are there any good coffeeshops, cafes or dessert places in new haven in the vicinity of yale?

There’s a Blue State Coffee on Wall Street that gets plenty of customers. There are other coffee places scattered about, including Au Bon Pain and the ubiquitous Starbucks (there’s one on the corner of High and Chapel).

Good luck!

Interviewer: “So what interests you about Yale?”
Peachsnapple: “Well I hear that New Haven has some really great places to get coffee, or a pudding, and that really appeals to me in a college.”
Interviewer: “!”
Peachsnapple: “?”
Interviewer: “(Impressed at the philosophical undercurrents of Mr/s Snapple’s meaning that he obviously cannot understand)”
Peachsnapple: “:)”
Interviewer: (Writes on notepad) “Student can obviously think for his/herself and would be a valuable addition to our school and coffee-shops.”
Peachsnapple: “:D”

Yes. All over. Stop in any one you see.

There’s really too many place to list, but for cafes, Claire’s Corner Copia is great, and so is the Book Trader Cafe. Ashley’s has the best ice cream :]

Idiosyncra3y captured my personality exactly! :)

I can’t vouch for the coffee, but the baked goods at Claire’s are yummy.

Another vote for Claire’s and Blue State; also Atticus Bookstore and Cafe, on the same block; Koffee Too on York near Elm.
