I've been fairly calm until tonight, but I was dumbfounded to get waitlisted at Northwestern. Now I'm unbearably tense about Chicago (my first choice.)

out of curiosity-- did you apply to berkeley?

Indeed. And I got into both.
I'm baffled that Northwestern would waitlist me and Chicago would accept.

Congratulations! :D
I applied to both as well, but was denied by Berkeley. They don't fancy many New Jerseyans, do they?

No Berkeley is picky - amazingly though 2 people in my class got in (I'm in NJ) so it's not impossible...

oooh, congrats! Are you going then?
Some boy and I were rejected, but two people were accepted last year from our school.

I hate to be pathetic, but could I have your stats, please? :]

S recvd acceptance envelope today. We are in SF Bayarea.

Decision:Accepted!

Stats:
SAT: 2180 (750M,730V,700W Chicago ignores the writing part)
SAT IIs: US History, 800; MathIIC, 740; Chemistry, 730.
GPA: 3.8u/4.4w
Rank: 35/853
Other stats: National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar with Honor

Subjective:
Essays: Painful to write. I think they showed depth of knowledge and imagination. It was excruciating to write the long one about a mind that sticks.
Teacher Recs: One was obscenely good. The other was good, but not memorable. The first one, though - man. A couple schools wrote her to say that it was a hell of a recommendation.

Counselor Rec: Probably pretty good. I know her better than the vast majority of kids at my school since her husband is my track coach.
Hook (if any): I really don't know.
Location/Person:
State or Country:Long Beach, CA.
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male

Major strength/weakness: My recommendation and the interview / weaker grades

Why you think you were accepted: My interview went perfectly. I had a lot in common with my interviewer, and we talked about a lot of non-school related things. I was really well-informed about Chicago and I think that was apparent in the questions I asked. Why the interview, you ask? Well, I got waitlisted at Northwestern after an awful interview, despite being the child of two generations of alumni there.

I'm just relieved to have gotten in. Chicago is my top choice, and it's the only private school of any note that I've been accepted by.
