Hey,
I have a question for Canadians at Amherst because other people do not seem to be able to answer this question. My question is how do canadian grades on the american grade system of 4.0 GPA… Here, 80 plus is A and i have two 80-85… 3 85-90 and 1 90+… So basically all As and i am in IB so it is harder than normal Canadian schools. how do i look? … what kind of grades did you Canadians have when entering Amherst? Does A mean automatically 4.0 GPA?? Thanks for your help!!

Hey,

I wish I could help you out but I have no idea! But I have noticed that you posted this in so many forums already.

Being from Canada, you know that Canada has amazing schools, too. You have to remember that international admissions is extremely difficult because you're competing against the brightest people in America as well as the brightest people on Earth. Plus, you're from Canada, so admissions will recognize that there are plenty of great colleges in Canada, whereas an incredibly bright applicant from another country will most likely not have that same opportunity (i.e. you have McGill!! Don't forget that!). The international applicants who get accepted to places like Amherst are absolute geniuses!!

Good luck with your apps!

Don't worry. You won't be the first Canadian to apply. They are very aware of the grading system. Plus, when the school sends your transcript, they send an explanation. That said, there are no guarantees about being admitted. Make sure your essays are stellar. They really do matter.
