Any Catamount fans out there??

My D is interested in UVM, wanted to ask a question or two if anybody is out there.

Go ahead, ask

How are the Biological Sciences and Environmental Science programs at the school. D is interested in both programs, how do they compare to other schools??

The Environmental Science program is excellent, if you look through the UVM website (news stories) and Burlington Free Press there are many features about this. The state of Vermont seems invested in the program, many aspects of the program reach the surrounding communities . Friend of D is in the program and is very pleased. Not sure about Biological Sciences. D is in the nursing program, she is very busy and happy with her program (so far). One major consideration about UVM is the climate, D grew up with it but it can be extremely cold.

Don't forget UVM has BOTH environmental science AND environmental studies majors. Alot of these students do internships in their field right here in Vermont.

How is the business school?

I am a freshman in the business school right now. So far I like it a lot, the school is becoming more popular. The classes I have right now are all extremely informative and interesting.

Adagle how large is your largest class? Do they have TAs? Are you from oos and if so were you able to get any merit/financial aid (bcs it is expensive for oos)? Is there peer tutoring, or have you used prof. office hours for study help? What is the reputation of the business school and do they have internships available for biz ppl outside of New England (ie: NYC)? Thanks for coming back and giving us info. I remember your postings from last year.

My biggest class is probably around 120 kids and thats a macroeconomics class that all first year business students are required to take along with a business administration and technology class, they also require calculus but it depends on how you test. My marcroeconomics class has a TA who takes notes during class and holds study sessions 3 times a week. There is also extensive tutoring oppurtunites by peers who are trained by the department and TA's. I am an out of state student who has to pay the high tuition. I didnt recieve financial aid or merit but it all depends on what kind of situation you are coming out of. The business school is gaining a better reputation each year, according to publications we place a high percentage of graduates into graduate school. The university itself is continually recognized nationaly also. Heres a link from the university about some of the exposure it recieves http://www.uvm.edu/admissions/undergraduate/?Page=nationalacclaim.html I really dont know anything about the internships yet but I am almost positive they place students into internships outside of New England. Hope this helps.

Yes, it helps quite a bit. It sounds like you are very happy. It is very expensive though. From all the posts I have read it looks like the most $ oos students receive is only 2,000. It sounds like you have a lot of tutoring available, which is a good thing. Burlington is great too. I hope that you like to ski.

i recently was admitted to UVM out of state, and I have wondered about merit scholarships for oos students. They basically have three the national merit, the CV starr which is a few thousand dollars, and the presidential which is not a set amount, the amount is based on academic merit
