Here are my stats
88 avg of 3.3 gpa from very competetive LI NY private school. No idea about weighting
17th percentile rank
1310 SAT 670 math 640 verbal
620 writing

Good recs etc

Involved in extras but only about 4 clubs/activities so nothing out of the ordinary

If I have any chance should I go there and try and meet with them. Should I call to express my interest.

I'm sorry to say but I'd guess you have only a slim chance. Apply as a reach -- but be sure you have lots of other schools that you love too. If it's not too hard you should go for a visit and try to book an interview.

Look at Denison. My son applied to Bucknell, but ended up going to Denison and he loves it.

Your SATs should be fine, but that GPA might break you. My sister had low SATs but she was ranked 4th in her class at a very competitive HS. This was 8 years ago too so i'm sure admission has gotten harder over the years.

I had a 3.4 gpa from an elite HS, and I got in (and attend). Granted my sat was higher, but I didn't have any amazing ec's. I do know that I had outstanding reccomendations, and my essay was very strong, but if you could get those things down, your chances seem realistic. It helps to have a strong upward trend as well (in grades that is); I went from having a couple C/D's freshman year to nearly all A's junior and senior year.
