54% for salutes. that's really all you need to know. stand out, make yourself look intersting and unique. scores don't really matter. i personally dont think you'll get advice here that you can't find elsewhere on this board.

Wow I don't know what these people are talking about. Your scores are (potentially) excellent and your grades are excellent as well. All of your ECs are great, and if you have a special, interesting essay and a good interview I don't see why you shouldn't be accepted. Maybe those people were kidding or...?

??? i thought i made my sarcasm pretty clear in my first post, esp. based on the original question.. on top of that a 54% rate for #2? that is nearly double the acceptance rate for Rice and exactly triple for regular decision admits, that sounds like good chance to me, although i still think that her scores, which at bottom 25%ile are not excellent, are good enough to be a non-factor.

OK, you're not from texas, and that, for RIce, is INCREDIBLE
they're looking for ppl like that, and if u realize dat the vast majority of applicants are Texans, while 51% of ppl that get into rice are from out-of-state, you have an excellent chance of getting in

listen...from what i heard...why Rice's student body stats are soo good is b/c they give extremely good merit aid and financial aid to top students. I mean...ppl if a school like Columbia or Penn or Cornell gave merit scholarships at like 10,000-20,000 of free money for just merit aid, these schools would have studnet bodies near HYP level.

Your scores should shift with your grades. They are low in a relative sense. So take the ACT again, and be ready for that awful science section.

god those are horrible credentials. you couldn't even get into a community college with that. They'd be like.. don't even show your face here, and then swiftly backhand you

haha shutup. i got in and i have a 4.0, it doesn't go above that here, and only have like... 5 aps. and got 5s on two of them and have a bunch of other junk. but everything you have there is Rice-worthy. just make sure you come out as really original and interesting in your 'box' and essay. there are lots of students like you who go save third-world countries but live on oatbran instead of lucky charms. So just woo them

I don't think that your test scores are bad or that they need to be brought up necessarily. I had a 1300 (both 650) when I applied and a 26 ACT. I got in. I really don't think that colleges care that much about your test scores. I think it more has to do with GPA (I had a 4.28 or something like that, please don't start talking about grade inflation at my school, because I don't really think that our grades are inflated) and extracurricular activities. Colleges like Rice want to see that there is something different and special about the students they admit. I think my essay was about a summer that I spent traveling around Thailand and how it impacted my life.
