Any chance at all?

I have always wanted to go to Wharton but I don't think my stats are sufficient to garner entry.

SAT: 2070/1430 - am attempting another time because I always get 2250+ in practice tests
IB: Predicted 44 out of 45 - taking the most rigorous courses available (I think it translates to a 4.9 weighted GPA because an A(level 7) in IB is worth one more GPA point than an A in honors or AP, unweighted should come at around 3.95 or so)
SAT II: Math 2C: 800, Physics: 780

Extracurriculars:

Founder/President of Revision Club

Founder/President of Guitar Club

Member of Debating

Member of Model United Nations

Represented school in Golf tournaments (did this after playing for only 3 months - going to write my essay on this, showing how I put in effort and made it into the team with people who had 9 years of experience)

Started a proper and official business/company

Racked in approximately 200 hours of community service (100 from Unicef and 100 from other methods)

Academic Distinctions and Honors:

UKMT Gold Medal INTERNATIONAL

AMC12 4th in school [SCHOOL] or top 10% in world [INTERNATIONAL] (narrowly missed AIME

Sunlife Maths Scholarship competition top 30% in the world [INTERNATIONAL]

Member of Mensa International [INTERNATIONAL]

Only school candidate selected and attending GYLC [SCHOOL]

Euclid Maths Competition [INTERNATIONAL] - haven't taken yet but should easily win distinction and come at least in the top 20% in the world

Employment Experience:

In the coming summer, I am going to split my 8 weeks into 4 different jobs to get a wide range of experience. The jobs I will get are: waiter at a restaurant, shadowing the vice president of a multinational, working with the regional manager of Barclays international bank, and selling/writing up reports for a jewelry store.

Recommendations:

I have to submit 2 recommendations max. (school rule, don't ask why). I think my recommendations from my Physics teacher should be excellent. For my other recommendation, I am still deciding between my Maths teacher (who will say I am VERY hard working and very good) or my Economics teacher (who will say I am enthusiastic, a good addition to the class, possess excellent knowledge but may not mention the fact that I am hard working).

Essays:

I think I can write great essays and I have a very interesting and substance-filled topic to write about.

I am not applying for financial aid, and I will attempt the SAT I one more time in an attempt to get over 2200 at least. Also, I am an international student if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it a lot, and I will chance back to the best of my ability if you want.

You have a more than decent shot. Your IB predicted is great, unless your school is known for over predicting (many schools are like that in my area so just saying). Your awards/work experience will distinguish you from others and looks like you’re pretty organised. I got 40/42 predicted + 2150 SAT and was deferred, so considering you will end up having similar stats and really good work experience I think you will be one of the better candidates

thanks, what did you put for the academic honors/distinctions section and how many were international?

I dont have any international awards, many school ones, but I’ve done lots of research / good work experience that helped me I guess. My essays focused on them. I think math gave me a real edge though, topped HL math in my school, 800 SAT 1 and SAT 2 math 2. You’ve got different strengths but overall I think you’re a stronger candidate than me because of the awards, so good luck

Oh, were you an international applicant?

Gotta say, a lot of those International Achievements aren’t really all that great.

Yes, I know but I would think that they would still look better and sound better than a school award. What would be a good international award?

Also, there aren’t really that many opportunities here in Hong Kong.

Yea I am, and we have even fewer opportunities in UAE :P
