Also getting a supplemental rec from the guy I worked under at Harvard Med

Awards: Honorary Mention State Speech Competition
AP Scholar
Commended Student for National Merit Scholarship

Thanks!

bumpppppppppppppppp

anyone????

How the #$&#(!@ do you have a 3.1 UW while a 5.18 weighted????

That's absurd. CIT has an acceptance rate of ~10%. I don't see any individual passion among your e.cs. Just seems like a bunch of college-appealing stats although some of the "charity" work is decent.

Don't put too much weight on the GC recs. You definitely have a shot at CM, but CIT is kind of a stretch.

You must understand, these schools look past GPA and SAT. They want to see interest associated with THEIR department, not general accomplishments. I'm not familiar with CIT, but I know kids with weak scores who got into excellent schools because they had a certain passion and pursued it with everything they had. Ditched charity work, clubs, and "leadership" roles.

Good luck, you definitely have a shot! I'm sure someone else can recommend some other schools similar to CIT.

your Ec's are where you shine. Your GPA hurts.
How did you get an internship at Harvard Med? that's awesome! did you have connections or something?

anyway, I think you are likely for CMU, but for CIT, i think it might be a slight reach becuase of your GPA. it's debatable whether your EC's make up for that. then again, I sure wouldn't be surprised if you got in.

thanks for the replies

Haha yea it was wierd how I got my internship. I read an article in the Boston Globe about how the lab was working on the human genome project and I just emailed the head of the lab and he just offered me a place at the lab. I wasnt doing much at first becuase they had never gotten a High Schooler in their lab and they didnt really know what I was capable of but now I've basically carved my niche. Im also getting a rec from the head of the lab so I'm really hoping that helps

Also, if I dont get into CIT, can I still get into CMU?

Sorry, but do you think I should apply to H&SS and then transfer into CIT or is it harder to transfer once in CMU?
