Any chance at Cornell ILR?

I'm a sophomore at Fordham University in the Bronx in their College of Business Admin., and I'm really interested in Cornell's ILR school. The aspects of the program are really intriguing to me and I'm just dying to get out of Fordham. The location isn't what you'd think for New York City, the classes aren't what I expected, and socially I'm just not happy. I've visited Cornell several times before and am sure the academics, campus, and people there are closer to what I'm wanting out of a college experience.

Some things of interest:

If HS ECs still matter:

Community Service Corps Exec.
Founded school's first Science Club (still in operation)

The college GPA will hold me back immensely.....do I still have a shot? I know the stats for external transfers to ILR are ridiculous, like 48% accepted. But I also know it's probably largely due to the presence of Guaranteed Transfers. So I don't have a clue what the real rate is, I'm taking that 48% with more than a few grains of salt.

Hey…im also applying for this school…try to raise your gpa a little bit more i will say, but be positive because this is the school in cornell with the highest acceptance rate…I really dont know why being so good but w.e…also dont worry about your sats because they dont ask for it…
Good luck!!

Honestly, I think your GPA is too low. If you can get a 4.0 for this semester and next fall and apply next spring, then you’ll probably get in.

Not to hijack this thread, but does Cornell ILR get suspicious of students who suddenly become interested in industrial relations?

I’m a sophomore now, would be applying for Junior standing. So I don’t have another year to wait.

Wow, I don’t know how I missed that you are a sophomore. In that case, you should definitely apply and make sure to express your interest in Cornell.

Im also applyin to ILR. When I talked to admissions, they look at people with a 3.3 gpa and higher. You are not much lower than that, but it is very low. I would assume there is a reason for your low gpa considering your hs stats. If there is, i would definitely highlight that.

bump (10 char)

i would honestly wait for spring '11. ilr is very competitive because it’s such a small school and because it’s so specialized. if you’re still going to apply for fall, your essays will really need to kill, but i really wouldn’t get your hopes up. i’m not trying to be mean, but they reject tons of 4.0s every semester.

Again, I can’t exactly wait because I’m currently a sophomore. This is my last chance to apply to transfer.

^^ it’s not, which is why i suggested spring '11. there were several juniors who came in with me this spring

Wow, I actually had no idea I could still apply in the spring as a Junior, I’ll definitely consider it.

Any other suggestion, folks? Thanks.
