Any chance at getting into Mich? Waitlisted

Hey all,
I recently got waitlisted from UMich and I wanted to know if I still have a good shot at getting accepted.
I'm most likely finishing up Senior year with All A's and 2 B's at most, and I recently got 3rd place at FBLA States competition, which I feel like would help a lot.
I just wanted to know if I still have a good shot at Mich or not.
Also, is there anything else I can do to improve my chance?
Thanks for your help in advance.

I thought for michigan, you’re supposed to tell them your decision by May 1st…

i told them i would accept the extended waitlist, which you are suppose to reply to by May 15th.

Unfortunately no single individual on the waitlist has a good shot at all. There are likely thousands that accepted the wait list. Based on history, at most there would be a couple hundred accepted off the wait list.

I did a 10 minute internet search on how many students have historically gotten in off the waitlist. It was not pretty. In the very best case UM has taken 19% of those students who asked to be put on the waitlist. In other years it looks like only a handful of students have been taken, out of thousands. Last year I think they overenrolled, so it may be that zero were taken off the waitlist.

Bottom line - I will tell you what I told my own son: Move on. You need to start getting excited about your second choice school and forget UM. If they subsequently offer you a place great, but you need to realize that your chances are somewhere between slim and none.

I would agree with prpdd. Second choice will look a lot better when you give it the attention that first choice deserves. It will lift a huge weight off of you.

Thank you for the honest and constructive criticisms. I do have a solid second choice, and I am pleased to go there. Michigan is a great school, and if I somehow got in on the waitlist, it would be very exciting. If not, I won’t be too disappointed.

Got off the waitlist from BU…hoping the same happens with UMich. :)
