ANY chance at johns hopkins??

I know applying at jhu would be a pretty big reach but im just wondering if there is any hope for me at all.. i am like an above average student at my school but my SAT scores are average i think, pretty low for jhu, my grades are good but i dont have very many EC's..

SAT: 660 Math 580 Critical Reading 650 Writing (1240)
I am hoping to take the ACTs which i hope will be alot better than my SATs.. I also might take the SATs a third time and actually try to study lol

GPA Weighted: 4.15
Idk what my unweighted is but i generally get all A's, one or two B's occasionally

Junior Year: AP American History, Honors Acc Chem, Honors Acc Physics, Honors English, Honors FST (Trig), Spanish
Senior Year: AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Calc, Honors English, Honors American Gov/Econ, Honors Spanish

I work at Brusters Ice Cream as a crew leader like 15-20 hours a week.. Im a Bethette in the Marching Band which takes up a lot of my time.. I was on the Yearbook Financial Staff and Ways and Means.. I did a shadowing program for Occupational Therapy and Nursing for 2 different hospitals.. Im in NHS.. This is really all I can think of......

what's your race?

Are you low income?

are you going to be the first person in your family to go to college?

well i am white and i dont really know what is considered low but i know my dad makes around 35K and my mom has a part time job.. idk if this factors into anything but neither of them went to college and there are 6 people in my family

"I also might take the SATs a third time and actually try to study lol"

-you didn't study the other two times?...if you have the same attitude about the other parts of your application, you'll have a hard time getting into college. retake the SAT and shoot for 2100+ and I think you have a shot.

^^ no need to be a jerk. im sure he was attempting to be funny and meant he would study harder and that maybe he didnt study as hard as he could. with his stats i dont think he is gonna have a tough time getting into college. that is a bit ridiculous. he has well over a 4.0+ weighted GPA. that being said. that is somewhat low income with 6 people in a family, but may not qualify as low income, im not sure what qualifies. it helps that no one in your family/or neither parents have gone to college. If you could get that SAT above 2000 i think you would have a decent shot at admission. JHU is a top school so it can be a crap shoot, even with good stats. Make sure you apply to plenty of matches and safeties and apply to a couple more reaches. Best of luck.

haha well its not that i wasnt taking it seriously it was just hard to fit in time to study when i had tons of other homework and tests to study for.. i took an sat prep class and the first time i took to the test i was relying on that and basically to see how well i would do cuz it was my first time.. i only got a 1150.. the second time all i did was change my strategy.. i ommitted waay to many questions the first time thats y my score was pretty low so i answered as many as possible and got a 1240.. i am studying this summer though so hopefully i will be able to raise my score even higher

what prep course did you take? Princeton Review worked pretty well for me. I think if you can raise your SAT 1 a lot you have a shot. Your EC's aren't that impressive so work really hard on your essays and get good recs.

I think JHU may not be realistic, but listen. You come from a low income (yeah that income is low by today's standards) family of 6 and you are working 20 hours a week plus have ECs. When else could you fit in anything more. I think you are doing great and need to play up these issues in your application without sounding like you are making excuses. See if you can raise your SAT score. If so, apply. If not, apply anyway and just hope for the best.

Try and relax. If you don't get into JHU, then there are many other places where you would be happy too.
