Normally I wouldn't even post this and bother anyone, but I got a rough rejection from a top choice today and am hoping to keep my options open. NW takes their sweet time making decisions so I'd appreciate having any perspective at all during these upcoming months of nail-biting.

Applying to CAS for an Economics major.
GPA: 3.58 from my first school, 50 credits, probably getting a 4.0 at my CC now, 12 credits -- they combine to a 3.66 overall
SAT: 1320 / 670M / 650V
College ECs: Honors program, College Republicans president, general member of SGA
High School ECs: Track captain, campaign manager for a local school board election
Essays: I'm pretty confident they were all top-notch material, let's assume I wow'ed 'em. Made a very specific and concise case for why NW suits me academically.
Recs: 3 of them, all extremely good - 1 from an Honors Humanities prof, 1 from a Microeconomics prof, 1 from a Marketing prof. Thinking of adding 1 more from a Comp.Sci. prof so I can have someone to vouch for me from a Math/Science perspective -- took his class way back when in my first semester but got an A and really stood out in terms of participation/knowledge.

Have I got any chance at all? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you're in. Your grades are almost enough as is and NU accepts a healthy amount. Couple that with good EC's and a strong essay - You're in.

Thanks for the input. I feel like I should emphasize that the 3.58 comes from a pretty "eh" college, though. Oh well, just gotta hold out over a verrrry long wait...

Hoo boy, nothing like two contradictory answers to leave you gnawing your fingernails down to nothing. =P Thanks for the input though slipper1234.

I'd say you're borderline (not to make you bite more off your nails but...). I'd argue you have good EC's from the perspective that they look for either good involvement in lots, or deep involvement in a few. Campaign Manager & head of the CR's (I totally support you on that btw) looks good.

However, they are right regarding the grades. Your college GPA is the most important part of your app. Though the number itself is strong, a 3.66 from an ok school + a CC is iffy.

Personally, I'd say you'll be one of those ppl they throw on top of a fence and push you one way or the other right at the end. Ya know, one of those, "he's decently qualified...but is he qualified enough based on the applicant pool?" I know that statement sucks and likely adds to the drama, but I think you should go at it from the perspective that you'll be somewhere in the fall, there's a reason you'll be there, and life will work out either way.
