any chance at NU RD?????

my overall gpa is probably somewhere in between a 3.5 and 3.7 unweighted. I am taking all IB Higher level classes (with the exception of math, which I am taking Standard Level)

I attend a NYC private school that does not rank
I am a white male that is not searching for financial aid

I take russian classes in school, have taken a summer russian course at UChicago over the summer (which i got an A- in that I will send also). My expected major is either going to be in russian or international relations, and if possible a combination of both.

SATs:
700 - Math
670 - CR
640 - Writing
610 - Math 1 (I dont know whether to send this or not, if they accept january SATs i think i can easily bring it up to a 700)

If i clearly don't stand a chance please say so!

thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!

no way! gpa is way 2 low. sorry

I dunno if I agree with FutureIvy…
What you’ve done (the conferences abroad) is pretty interesting
Give it a try!

I think it’s a reach, but if you really like NU you should definitely apply

jeez how degrading.
you DO have a qualifying chance!
because…
admission factors aren’t just from gpa and test scores
you do have a good chance to boost yourself with essays and extracurriculars.
EC wise, you’re good.
now the essays…
work on them!!!

Do not send the math1 subject test and don’t bother taking it again.
Even a 700 on the math1 is not worth sending (IMHO).
I’d say you’ve got a shot, go for it!

His gpa isn’t THAT bad for northwestern…

Does your school have a Naviance?? Check there first. If your school is one of the better ones in NYC (e.g. Horace Mann, Dalton, etc.), your GPA will be looked at in a better light. Your ECs are very interesting. Essays and recs will make or break you.

FutureIVY is a HS freshman who lies about psat scores on other threads to make other users feel bad. don’t take it to heart, if you like NU I say apply!

I think you have a shot. If it makes you feel any better, a girl in my school just got into Northwestern with a 27 ACT. She’s not ranked top 20 in my school and my school is pretty small with only 350 students in my grade. She does like maybe four after school activities and is not even in leadership roles. Her GPA will most likely be lower than yours because she’s only taken maybe one AP/Honors class and that’s English. She is from India though, which was probably an advantage. She’s a sweet girl, but not academically the best. So you never know until you try.

^^If she got in with a 27 ACT, I suspect there’s more there than meets the eye and/or something you aren’t telling us. It’s just too low a score without something that made her exceptional (or if she’s a “development” admit).

Its a reach dude, your gpa is low, and your test scores aren’t that great. 1370/1600 won’t cut it.
My roommate at Emory was denied with a 1550/1600 and a 2350/2400 for NU Early Decision

i’d say those scores are going to hurt, and padding your resume with things like varsity cross country and honor council for a year won’t make you look any better. focus on the big things and give it your best shot!
