Any Chance at UCLA

from one of the top schools in the nation.
Moved around alot Sophomore year (to Kansas and back)
and this really affected my GPA

Applying to Aerospace Engineering

My stats

UC GPA - 3.79
-GPA UW - 3.55
In 10th grade I changed schools 2ce I moved to KS and back, Lost all of my furniture,
it was a shock, furthermore I did not get the classes I wanted upon returning and my high school did not use my transfer grades.
I am sending the UC's a copy though and I hope they use my KS first semester sophomore grades because then my UC GPA jumps to 4.00
This was a real tragedy, because otherwise I would be looking good for Cal and stuff, oh well =)

GOOD LUCK to everybody that is applying

Well, your extracurriculars and test scores are on par…maybe even above for UCLA
The only thing that is low is your GPA. Nonetheless, with good essays I’m sure you’ll get in

Hopefully you filled out the spot on the app for extenuating circumstances. I think other than the GPA you’re looking good.

Much more than a chance.

For my circumstances I put them in the “additional information” box

Thanks for the replies guys,
I always though I had no chance for UCLA because I thought their GPA was like 4.4

lol, I though I had no chance at UCLA but some chance at cal
now I see that it is the other way around
thanks

You have a great shot at both. Your SAT/ACT is fantastic. GPA isn’t the best, but honestly your circumstances will be taken into account, and it’s still pretty solid. Overall I would say you’re a lock for at least 1 of them (UCLA or Cal).

Thank youm I really hope so especially UCLA

UCLA Engineering (from what the Dean and admissions committee told me 4 years ago) only looks at numbers, they throw out your personal statement.

Having said that, your numbers don’t look too bad. The GPA seems a bit low (I was 4.53 weighted, 3.95 unweighted). However, your test scores are stellar. I wouldn’t be surprised if you get into UCLA.Good luck in UCLA. I’m actually a UCLA Aerospace Engineering graduate (as of dec 2009). Feel free to private msg me any questions…and one bit of advice - rock your classes…there is no reason why you shouldn’t. You’ll have so many more opportunities with a solid gpa. A lot of people i know party it up first quarter and have a terrible start in college…make it your goal to have atleast a 3.5

Thanks a lot, I will PM you some questions soon,

thanks for the chance,

Does UCLA Eng. look at SAT more than GPA?

I will definetely aim to get a stellar GPA in college, because I have learned how devastating a low GPA can be in high school, even if one has talent.

I’m really not sure if they look at SAT more than GPA. I would assume GPA is weighted more. Nonetheless, chances are you’ll get in.

And you’re totally right about the GPA thing. I ended w/ a 3.9 :)
