<p>Hi all
I can't seem to relax for some reason even though my decision is still a month away
(if it comes out in batches, maybe i can expect to get it by may 15th since deadline was april 15. technically, i sent everything in by april 15th but they had to process some and clear some things out so i got an email that it reached admissions office for review on april 26th)
but i was getting very very anxious
so i decided to post my stats... to get an idea if i have any chances at WUSTL</p>
<p>==========================================================================================
High School GPA: 3.88
I had straight A's until my junior year when i flunked most of my classes (health issues and other problems.. it was a very difficult phase of my life, but i explained this very very briefly-few sentences- on my application. Everyone has a story to tell so i figured they wouldn't be too interested in it). so my overall gpa was 3.88 in the end
SAT I: none. never got a chance to take one
SAT II: Math IIC 780 (took in sophomore year.. i think..)</p>
<p>ECs: nothing impressive at all. just a few clubs that i really enjoy (related to my major) and some community service back in highschool.
Awards: none... i think i had some back in highschool, but didn't list on my application. i couldn't remember what exactly they were.</p>
<p>Essay: Bad, or maybe, okay.. Not good at all. I'm very bad at essay writing, and i really couldn't think of any impressive stories to tell. ==========================================================================================</p>
<p>i'm really leaning towards WUSTL and i desperatly wanna go there but i don't think i stand a good chance. do i??
any advice/input will be appreciated. thank you guys so much!! :)
(i think i may have become a little obsessive over this..please understand!)</p>
<p>To be completely honest, I don't think you'll get in. I can't even count the times I've been told that reason for transferring is the one of the most important factors when applying to transfer, and if you think you're essay is bad (you didn't convey your reasons) than they may dismiss your application.
But I could be wrong. Also, not having took the SAT may hurt your chances as well, I know that it does at a lot of other schools.</p>
<p>Just looking at it your post, these things catch my eye:</p>
<p>Positives -
Strong HS GPA
Strong SAT II Math Score
Pretty strong courseload at CCC</p>
<p>Negatives -
Applied near the deadline when the school releases limited acceptances on a rolling basis
Relatively low GPA at a CCC
Lack of SAT/ACT to support academic merit/grades at CCC
No leadership roles in ECs
Self-described "bad, or maybe okay" essays
Applying as a pre-med (Bio) major, which WashU has many of</p>
<p>If everything you're telling us is true, I don't think you'll get in. If you don't get in, you could improve your chances for next year by bringing up your GPA and giving the ACT or SAT a shot as I think it's a must for students wanting to go from a CC to a top university. Some sort of leadership role would also be impressive. Most importantly though, for a school like WashU you should apply very early as they have a limited number of spots available and there may be few left by the time they read your application.</p>
<p>thanks Emangelik and brand_182 for your input
that's what i thought so too..
i'm sure there are tons of people applying with similar stats
so it shouldn't be a surprise if i get rejected.</p>
<p>i don't even know how i decided to apply with my stats...to top schools...
oh well, now i should believe in miracles...:)
hoping that will happen to me this one time....!</p>
<p>well don't think of it like that - you really do have good stats, but you're applying to very tough schools. You may still get in this year, but if you don't I think you'd have a great shot if you do the things I've said above for next year.</p>
<p>Thank you brand :)
I really really wish I could get in this year.
It'll be my 3rd year at cc if i spend another year............
and i don't think i'll be so glad to repeat this one more time :(</p>
<p>anyways, does anyone have anything else to comment??
is there anyone who got into washu with similar/lower stats?
that will greatly brighten my day. lol</p>
<p>Hey I got into WashU as a transfer this year with a 3.3 UW HS gpa and a mediocre SAT (2170) and SAt II scorse 800/730/630 Math II/US Hist/Bio. But I think the reason I got in was that my whole application was completle by Feb 15th, I was working in a undergraduate lab, and also because my essays were pretty good (I think). Looking at your stats, I dont think you're a shoe-in, but you have a decent chance. Unfortunately I dont know how many spots left, etc the admissions office is working with, but yeah.</p>
