I wrote so much on my previous thread that I think it scared people away! haha. I have summarized it.
In short, I ABSOLUTELY regret my decision in transferring to George Mason University.
Is there any possibility I can transfer out to a well-regarded university (such as UVa) despite the completion of 70-79 credits (79 when I complete my summer school courses)? I got a 29 on the ACT and ~3.8 GPA.
I am absolutely willing to lose credits in exchange for a transfer. I could skip my fall semester in order to obtain much-needed work experience possibly in the form of an internship. Any hope at all? What would YOU do if you were in my position? I am just seeking any advice at all. Thank you for your time!
So, you are a Junior, you have a relatively decent GPA (3.8), you are a business major, and you wish that you had applied to UVA.
One thought: How far away from graduating are you? Why not stick it out long enough to graduate with a Bachelors, possibly work for a year or two to get practical experience, then apply to UVA for an MBA?
9 credits summer 17’,
18 credits fall 17’,
21 credits spring 18’
9 credits Summer 18’
I would lack an internship with this path though.
To be honest I do not know if I will pursue a post-graduate education as of now. It is absolutely an option. UVa has always caught my eye.
I went to a community college for my freshman and sophomore years and GMU have the same vibes. Minimal social interaction since it is primarily a commuter school, lack of school spirit, and a sense of selling myself extremely short.
If the 3.8 is at GMU and not high school, I think you would have a good shot to gain admittance to UVA. Your ACT will not be relevant after a couple of years of college. I’m sure you know that VA community colleges have automatic admits into state universities based on GPA. That no longer applies in your case, but I think it is a 3.5 or 3.6 at Nova to get into UVA. So your 3.8 would be strong, although I’m not sure how it is calculated.
Besides UVA, though, I would suggest you look for other places to apply as well. It’s like coming out of high school, you can never be sure where you will be accepted or denied. What about William and Mary, Tech, or JMU? I don’t know about your financial situation, but you could also potentially look at OOS schools, although aid is tougher for transfers. Sorry your experience at GMU has not been a happy one. The school does have some strong programs. Good luck!
@TTG Yes I have a 3.8 at GMU! The program you are speaking of is the Guaranteed Admission Agreement, I should have definitely been in that program! grrrrrr.
“Students who have at any time completed three or more years of study at another four-year college or university are not eligible for transfer admission to the College of Arts & Sciences. This also applies to students who have attempted a full junior year at a four-year institution after transferring from a community college or another four-year institution.”
So I should be eligible for a transfer as I have <90 credits it seems.
