Any chance for Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Princeton Engineering?

Do you think I have a decent chance for any of these three schools?

GPA: 4.3 weighted, 3.86 unweighted
ACT: 34 (E36, M35, R35, S30)
SAT II: Math II 760, Physics 690
Rank: 6/460 (top 2%)
AP Lit: 4
AP Stat: 5

Senior year: AP Lang, AP Calc, AP Physics, AP Psych, a technology/research class, german, astronomy

Volunteer at a soup kitchen (15 hours)

National Merit Commended
Honor Roll
All Academic Regional Team

Male
Eastern European Immigrant
Very good recommendations
Decent essays
Very strong background in research (4 years), submitted a 50 page research paper to these schools

Match: Carnegie
Medium Reach: Cornell
High Reach: Princeton

Medium reaches: CMU & Cornell
High reach: Princeton.

thanks for your input! anyone else??

I find it strange that you’re lowest ACT section is science yet you’re majoring in engineering…

I realize that the ACT probably has no correlation with engineering. Still, somewhat awkward.

Well, ACT science doesnt really measure how much you know about scientific concepts. Its more of just answering questions about data. And a 30 isnt that bad either, IMO

Sorry to bump, but could someone give me some input for cornell specifically? i’m not sure if my stats are quite on par for cornell’s engineering program. if the school is a “mid reach” for me, does that mean i have a pretty slim chance of getting accepted?

I would say that you have a 40% chance-ish

For Cornell I think you have a bit less than 50%. For the College of engineering, it’s insanely competitive for males they accept about 15% of male applicants for engineering. But your research paper could be a big boost, it depends on what they think of it.

Good luck hope to see you there in the fall!

Thanks for the response guys. So 40-50% huh? Idk if I should be happy or worried haha

Well, your GPA is good, and your scores are decent. A 34 ACT is pretty good, but the Physics is not. Maybe you should retake it. Your ECs are really lacking, BUT the paper sets you apart. If your paper is good, and the adcoms like it, I say

Princeton

  • high reach
    Cornell
  • low reach/high match
    CMU
  • low reach/high match

you have a decent shot;

if they do not like your paper

  • all three would be high reaches

Edit*
Your strength of schedule I cannot comment on. Senior year looks on par, but the rest looks shaky as you only took 2 APs.
If it is good disregard this, but if it truly is laking, that makes your GPA look unimpressive.
