Any chance for me?

<p>Hey,
I’m an intl. student applying from Germany. I graduated in june this year from a local public highschool. It is the most competitive in my region though.</p>

<p>I’m applying RD for the College (PPE)…</p>

<p>And here are my stats:</p>

<p>Testing:
SAT I : 3rd attempt 1390 → 700v 690m
SAT II’s: French, Math IIc, Writing
Not yet taken, but expect also to be around 700
TOEFL: 283; Essay: 6.0</p>

<p>Other:
GPA: German Abitur; 1.9 on a weird 1.0 - 4.0 scale (anything below 4.0 is failed)
rank: top 10%
hardest courseload possible; I was enrolled in a bilingual (German/English) education program </p>

<p>Recs: Teacher1: Excellent
Teacher2: Excellent
Counselor: very good
Current employer: Excellent
Employer in summer 2003 (internship in Romania): very good
Peer evaluation/recommendation: 2 excellent ones</p>

<p>Essays: 1 excellent
rest decent to very good</p>

<p>EC’s + leadership:
12 years of soccer, captain of the club-team 1999 - 2002, captain of the schoolteam 2000 - 2004,
teamleader of school’s team participating in the “stock market game” 2003,
helped organizing (at out school) and participated in the nationwide debating project “Youth debating” 2003 + 2004, in 2004 acted as a juror (the ones who evaluate the speakers’ performances)
Board member of the Young Liberals Aachen 2002 - present (political youth organization officially acknowledged by the FDP (liberals in German government)),
Treasurer of the Liberal Students Aachen and region 2003,
founded (with two others) a MUN-club 2003, participated with an official delegation from our club at a conference at the International University in Bremen </p>

<p>community service + volunteering:
in summer 2002 + 2004 helped out at a organization in Bucharest, Romania, that helps homeless children (and there are PLENTY of them over there!), eg. arranges for them to find shelter, organizes meals, no-drug campaigns etc. </p>

<p>refused to serve in the military; instead I subscribed for 9 months of community service at a local hospital. (41 hrs a week) since september 1st</p>

<p>Hook: Parents are Romanian immigrants, trilingual education (Romanian, German, English) + almost fluent in French, don’t apply for financial aid</p>

<p>Though, I am not sure whether these are real hooks. </p>

<p>So, if you’re not bothered by the long text, I’d really appreciate any answers/evaluations etc…
Do you think I have a realistic chance? (SAT I hurts)</p>

<p>best</p>

<p>refused to serve in the military? whats up with taht?(im just curious) otherwise your extracurrics look fantabulous(i know that isnt the queens english). i must say though, im not well read on the competition from int. students, but from where is stand it looks good.</p>

<p>u r in, i'll be rejected :(</p>

<p>it cant be that bad newby, can it?</p>

<p>mengcheng, here in germany we still have the damn conscription..
its kind of complicated.. but it goes like this: if you're 18 and not longer in school you have to present yourself at the closest barracks where they test you physically and mentally..
you may refuse to serve in the military, but you have to do so officially and they have to recognize you. you have to write some statements in which you declare why you don't want to do military service.. point is that if they don't recognize you, for whatever reason, you HAVE to go no matter what!
they can actually imprison you for disobedience.. i know its ridiculous..
and this in one of the greater western countries!
tztztz</p>

<p>its ok stauch, one word: dave matthews. here in america, the girls love boys that lash out against figures of authority. (i.e. you). so once you get into penn, which should be a pretty safe bet, you can get all the groupie girls you want. sadly, boys like me neither dodge the draft or play an instrument...... :(</p>

<p>In the ED round Penn had more than 3 times as many international applicants as they had last year. All bets are off for all international kids in the RD round until you see how many kids apply, in my opinion.</p>

<p>Since only two events of any significance happened in the past year that could explain this, do you think that it is the new Penn president or maybe the new #4 ranking that brought in all those Internationals ED??? (hmmmmm)</p>

<p>robyrm, when did we jump to 4? and from what place were we before we jumped to fourth?</p>

<p>Why is it not surprising that germany would have mandatory military service... :p</p>

<p>LoL i was waiting for sum1 to say that.</p>

<p>I'm not good at waiting</p>

<p>hahahaha..</p>

<p>aw man, that hurts</p>
