Son is a junior in a very good public h.s. in MA.
Has a 4.7weighted GPA which translates to roughly a 3.13 on a "normal" 4.0 scale. 3/4 of classes have been at the advanced level and he will take 3 APs next year (Stats, Bio, Latin). School does not rank. He is president of latin club; varsity crew and golf; amnesty international club; student council; some volunteering with american cancer society; will work in law firm this summer.

SATs: 700M, 620CR, 520W (will take again in June)

Not applying for financial aid.

Anyone with any thoughts out there? Thanks very much!

Do you really want fellow aspirant/aspirant parents who are equally struggling with assessment of possibility to give you a response? A more reliable indicator is to go to Hamilton (or any college's site) and look up the Common Data Set, where the college will show ranges of GPA and SAT's for admitted classes, thereby giving you much more reliable data. Best of luck.

Good activities, SAT is low, from what I understand Hamilton is BIG on writing (I don't know about SAT Writing scores, but the curriculum). I'd also make sure that you did something over the summer and that you come to Clinton NY for a personal interview - they are "strongly recommended" and I went for one. They are VERY evaluative.

Hamilton also does not hide the fact that the interview is important:
"Because the admission committee wants to know as much as possible about each applicant, a personal interview is strongly recommended. Students who have not interviewed will be at a competitive disadvantage in the admission process."

I HIGHLY recommend "Rock the SAT" for the CR section. It has a CD and workbook. Learning the lyrics to the songs on the CD gives you the definition of a few hundred words and the songs are really catchy and not hard to listen to. It raised my score 200 points in a three month period!
