please post any opinions you have

Its going to be an uphill battle due to the scores and rank.

I dont like responding to chances threads.. .but good luck in the application process... I know it is stressfull for us all

A 1240/1600 SAT is low for Notre Dame without a significant "hook" such as being an URM or a recruited athlete.

thanks for responding
I know my sats are pretty low but do you think it is worth applying even if there is only a very slight chance at getting in or even waitlisted

I would certainly encourage you to apply! you never know what could happen, and you really are not extremely off-pace. You're a bit low, but hey, you've given it your best effort. And you'll never know unless you apply.

You will always look back and wonder what would've happened if you do not. Just put the work in and see what happens.

Thanks that pretty much what I've been telling myself. I certainly wouldn't always want to wonder whether or not I would have gotten in. I guess a chance to attend Notre Dame is worth paying $65.

I agree. Apply regardless of what you think of your chances. You will be denied 100% of the time to the colleges you never apply to. Just write a tremendous essay and show the counselors your personality and give your recs to a teacher that really knows you. I think the university does a good job of looking past test scores. With a student body that are so inclined to volunteer, I don't think they would get that if they just look at SAT or ACT scores. Last time I checked, those tests didn't test volunteerism!

Yea, I feel like my community service and involvement in campus ministry and various retreats is something that would hold a lot of weight with them and maybe even out a lower sat score.

I think you are a great candidate in every way but the rank and tests. You can't do much about the rank at this point, but you are taking the tests again. Glad to see you are taking the ACT, you might do much better on this one! Try to increase the test scores and then apply...you just never know. Everything else is so very good! Good Luck!!!

someone from last year (don't remember who) sticks out for... she had extremely low ACT (27? 28?) for ND and not that great of GPA but she got in, and i remember thinking wow they must really look past a lot of that if they can see the type of person you are in your essay and recs...

get in contact with your regional rep ASAP!

oh of course apply!

you'll never know if you dont apply

thanks for the replies
my new sat scores did not help me at all so now I will just focus on the ACT

You have time to try the SAT again - I think in either Nov or Dec - go for it!

I did much better on the ACT than the SAT the first time I took it, so maybe you will have better luck with that. You can do it!

Thanks. And I did register for the december one. My friend is setting me up with a tutor who helped him to increase his math by 140 points from a 580 to a 720 so hopefully that will help. I did not study as much as I should have for the last one so I still have plenty of room for improvement.

you don't have a great SAT score, but the rest of your application sounds solid. I'd definitely encourage you to apply. I knew kids at ND with lower SAT scores than you... though they usually had something else going for them. Focus on getting your ACT up and hopefully your extra-curriculars will pull you through. good luck!
