i'm probably one of the worst students on here but here goes:

GPA: 3.23 UW (does it count at all that all my classes since freshmen year have been strictly on the honors track?)
SAT SCORE: currently 2080...a bit low but i'm retaking it soon...aiming for 2300+
EC's:Hapkido (martial arts), Piano ( i also teach younger children), Trumpet, Church Youth Group/Worship Leader, Club Treasurer (for 2 clubs), 200+ service hours, Swim Team (outside school), Tennis (school team), and have a job at my city's Chamber of Commerce

so...

do i have any chances whatsoever at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, USC, WashU?
does it help if any of my family (cousins) have gone to the schools before me?
well if help at all if i'm malaysian? ><;;

also senior year...i will be taking 5 AP's. o.o

You'll probably have a rough time with the top UCs. The UC system doesn't put much stock in the SAT; it cares about your GPA and your SAT II scores the most out of all your stats.

If you raise your SATs and score well on the IIs it'll up your chances a bit, a lot of schools don't count your Freshman year, so if that's what's bogging you down, don't worry about it

You should always remember that the UC system does not look at your freshman year, and that their weighted GPA only counts AP's and UC designated Honors courses. You should ask your counselor about which courses you took were UC weighted.

and yes, it will help that a close family member had gone to one of the above schools.

Being Malaysian(or from anywhere on asia east of Afghanistan) will not help you one bit.

Other than your GPA your chances seem great

My GPA sucks, I got 2100/2400 on my SAT, i do quite a lot of EC's but im not gonna list them cus no ones cares or reads about them anyways, and I'm a asian male too (living east of afghanistan if thats even a factor....which i think is total BS)

And im going to be in the class of 2010 for UPenn...

Don't worry about it too much, You'll do fine for those schools and ur stats are not bad.

If ur still worried, maybe you'll be comforted to know that out of the many people who have made USC in my school, the SATs of 3 of those people are 1720, 1820, and 1850......none had any special ECs of hooks or legacies...so......just chill out, ur chances for those schools look great too me, as long as u got the money to pay for it :)

UCB and UCLA may be a little stretch, but other than that, good luck!
