Any Chance of a Full Ride at Rutgers?

I don't know what constitutes a full ride at Rutgers, if there even is one...can you guys help me out?

GPA: 3.850
RANK: N/A (Guidance Counselor told me it was 1st decile though)
SAT I: 750 M, 800 V, 680 W (2230/1550)
SAT II: 760 MII, 740 BIO, 690 CHEM
Extremely tough courseload: 6 AP's, 13 Honors

Good Extracurriculars...+130 hrs @ hospital, +150 hrs at a cultural association, leadership position in some academic teams/clubs, started a club, doing dance for 6 yrs now, lot more of the same mold...

Essay on Rutgers diversity: Pretty good
Other Essays: Very strong
Recs: A couple are okay, 1 is outstanding

Can I also get some chances for other colleges?

Dartmouth
Brown
Yale
Harvard
Boston College
Northwestern
Boston University
USC
RPI
Case Western Reserve University
TCNJ

...I know the first six are reaches...but do I honestly have a shot at HYBD? With all the other ridiculous people on the forum that got deferred/rejected from them, I'm not too sure.

Rutgers probably has an honors program and gives some honors scholarships--that's the closest you'll get--and based upon your numbers you should have no problem getting that.

As far as the other schools, the problem is with the ECs and lack of academic competitions. (The GPA and test scores are quite fine for most schools).

I'd try for Brown and also Penn (which is not on your list) as your reach schools. Harvard is out, as is Yale and probably Dartmouth. You'll get in at Boston College, Boston University, USC, RPI, TCNJ and Case Western in my opinion. Northwestern is 50-50 IMHO.

Best of luck to you.

thanks calcruzer!...yeah, i didn't list all my extracurriculars...

i'm part of my school's academic squad that ranked 1st in the state last year...and was captain of another squad that ranked 7th overall in the state...
and i was the vice president of science olympiad, and was ranked in the state there tooo...
i've done science olympiad as well haha.....
i've been a member of my cultural diversity club for 4 years
have done dance competitions and dance shows for 6 years
in addition to cultural volunteering and hospital volunteering, i've taken a mini-med school program at UMDNJ
i've shadowed doctors
i've also got some of my poetry that i write published.....
piano for 3 years

there are more extracurriculars, but those are my hugest ones...my fault for not putting them up before.

hmm, somebody at my school told me that he got a full ride to rutgers....he's got a 1600 and a 3.92 gpa, and told me that to get one, you have to have a 1500+ in M+V and top 5%....i've got a 1550 and my school doesn't rank, so i just wanted to know if he was lying, or if there's some other clause in there....oh yeh, i'm in state for rutgers....

<a href="http://admissions.rutgers.edu/080101.asp%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.rutgers.edu/080101.asp</a> This is the information about scholarships at Rutgers.

Your friend was right... I know at my school, they wouldn't release rank to colleges unless it was for scholarships. I assume it's the same for your school. So what's really important is that you have the top 5% for the full ride... wait and see what you hear from Rutgers if your guidance counselor won't tell you your rank.

Good luck with your college search! If you have any questions about Rutgers or its honors program, ask. (or check out the Rutgers forum on CC, there's a decent amount of info there.) I'm a sophomore honors student (premed) majoring in Biochem and Philosophy.

Here's some info on the SAS honors program: <a href="http://sas.rutgers.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=332&Itemid=124%5B/url%5D">http://sas.rutgers.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=332&Itemid=124</a></p>

sigh...i'm pretty sure i'm like 7-8%, not top 5...but the rank is unweighted...if it were weighted, i'm absolutely sure that i'd break top 5%...would rutgers possibly make an exception to this?

You'll get merit aid for sure from Rutgers, but I highly doubt you'll get a full ride. In addition, I think the ivies will be almost impossible because your ECs will pale in comparison with all the other ivy applicants.

ah well...no harm in trying, eh? lol thanks for the $0.02

i live in nj, and now it is not possible to get a full ride due tot he fact the nj budget spending was cut and rutgers is a public U

I hate these schools that give out scolarships based on rank. I'm not top 5% because I took the hardest possible classes and had some grades messed up by a teacher who missed half of each year for two years to recover from surgury. If I had a weighted GPA, I would probably be ranked #2 instead of #18. In my school, if you don't have a 4.0 UW, you are at best top 3%. I might not get accepted into an honors program because of this at my saftey.

i know yer pain ungst...trust me, i do

ilovematt... You're wrong. Click on the link I posted.

i know what it says, but it is not right, bc i know someone who tried tog et and bc they qulified and there answer was that they cannot give full rides anymore due tot he fact of budget cuts, email them and find out

bump bump bump?

don't count on getting full ride to a public school though. It's quite hard, especially with Rutgers' size.

Ilovematt... I go to Rutgers... I know they are still offering full rides. It is probably very hard to be offered the $19,000 scholarship, but there are people already on CC who have gotten the $17,000 scholarship which is for all intents and purposes a full ride.

YOOO I GRADUATED FROM MILTON LAST YEAR W/ PERFECT SCORES and EC's, NO WAYYYY are you getting into Rutgers w/ a scholarship if I didn't even get in. Get ready to flip burger's at McDonald's. Respek.

i figured it out, you need a 1500+, top5% and a legacy and then it is still hard

haha, that's tougher than some of the good LACs

lol, i was gonna bump this, but i got a letter from rutgers stating that i get $5000 a year, which is two scholarships below the full ride, which is 1500, and top 5%...its weird cuz i just missed it with a 1550 and top 7%....and its quite disconcerting too because drexel gave me $17500 a year and their honors college, and im outta state...

if your top 20% in jeresy you can go to a community college for 2 years free then transfer to a school like Rutgers for the next two years <a href="http://www.njccc.org/njstars.htm#%5B/url%5D">http://www.njccc.org/njstars.htm#</a></p>

not really for the TOP STUDENTS but for someone who wants to stay in jeresy it not half bad
